Are you interested in healthcare developments and policy from a patient’s perspective? Would you like to gain experience at an active, national healthcare advocacy organization? If so, this traineeship might be just what you’re looking for.

The Dutch Patient Federation represents over 200 patient organizations. We advocate for everyone who needs healthcare. Thanks to its members, the reviews on ZorgkaartNederland, the information on DigitaleZorgGids, the experiences shared on Mijnkwaliteitvanleven.nl, the input from over 23,000 Care Panel members, and the questions submitted via the National Care Number, the Dutch Patient Federation knows what patients believe is working well and what could be improved. With this knowledge, the federation, together with its members, influences healthcare policy. And the Dutch Patient Federation gives a voice to everyone who needs care now or in the future: in the doctor’s office and in politics, with health insurers, and in the news. About 75 people work at our organization in Utrecht.

We currently have an opening for a

Healthcare Policy/Projects Intern

(full-time: 36 hours per week)

As a trainee, you will have the opportunity to develop your knowledge and skills in the area of policy advocacy within the healthcare sector. You will do this by proactively contributing to a number of projects and policy development initiatives. You will also help implement activities related to the Patient Federation’s products, such as DigitaleZorgGids, MijnKwaliteitvanLeven, or ZorgkaartNederland.

What are you going to do?

You will begin your traineeship in our Digital Healthcare team. You will be part of the PGO on Air program. You will assist the program manager or project leaders and work on tasks within projects. You will be assigned specific tasks, help steer the program toward its goals, and report on progress. You will work both independently and as part of a team. You will work to make the information on digitalezorggids.nl (DZG) relevant to an increasingly broad audience. You will also help improve the quality, quantity, and presentation of the information on the website to ensure that visitors receive the best possible service. After completing your initial training period at Digitale Zorg, you will continue your traineeship within one of our policy teams (Specialized Medical Care or Primary and Long-Term Care) or with the Products & Services team.

About PGO on Air
The Patient Federation strives to ensure that all residents who wish to do so have access to an accessible, user-friendly, and well-stocked personal health environment (PGO) that adds value to the care process and contains information that is understandable to everyone. This allows people to take more control of their health and care and to engage in shared decision-making with their healthcare provider. PGO on Air is a multi-year program that promotes the use of PGOs by helping people learn about, choose, use, and make the most of them. Together with healthcare providers and institutions, we’re exploring the added value of PGOs. Collaboration is key to achieving this goal. You’ll be working on the program as a project assistant.

About DigitaleZorgGids.nl
DZG is the guide to finding the most suitable digital healthcare solutions for people with or without medical conditions. We aim to assist them in an independent and transparent manner when they encounter or wish to utilize digital tools in their healthcare process and regarding their health. Reaching out, explaining, helping, and supporting. You contribute ideas and help shape the content of the site.

What do we offer you?

We offer a diverse traineeship at an engaging organization with dedicated people. An organization where you can further develop your skills in substantive, strategic, and political areas, and where you can build a strong network in the healthcare sector. This will help you lay a valuable foundation for your career. Generally speaking, your traineeship with us lasts three years. You’ll start with a one-year contract. If everything goes well for both you and us, we’ll extend it for another two years. After those three years, we’ll part ways. You will be assigned a mentor. Together with the other members of your team, they will provide you with guidance. You can take advantage of our regular education and training opportunities.

We offer flexible working hours. This isn’t a job where you necessarily have to work strictly “9 to 5.” You can work in a hybrid model with us (partly from home, partly at our office in Utrecht). However, if you prefer, you can also work entirely at our office. The salary starts at €3,015.00 gross per month for a 36-hour workweek (Social Work Collective Labor Agreement, scale 9). If you have already gained relevant experience in other traineeships or positions, your starting salary may be higher. The Dutch Patient Federation offers excellent employment conditions, including an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) and a career budget. The IKB provides you with a budget that you can use freely to receive a cash payment or to purchase additional leave hours. The Social Work Collective Bargaining Agreement (CAO) applies. Based on the CAO, you will participate in the Healthcare and Welfare Pension Fund.
