More about this organization
A smiling woman in a dark suit stands in front of a group of people in a modern office setting at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy.

You will be working with one of the teams in our shared services department on a wide range of financial tasks. Some of these tasks are structured and scheduled, such as everything related to the annual report or other periodic reports.

In addition, there’s plenty of opportunity to delve into new developments. How about setting up the administration for the new €24 billion agricultural transition fund, where every euro must, of course, be properly recorded and accounted for? Or making our financial processes “cloud-ready”? Preparing our financial system for the future presents various challenges where you can make a difference with your financial expertise. Think of new ways of reporting. In projects, you’ll collaborate with a variety of colleagues, from IT specialists to project managers.

Senior Finance Specialist

Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy / Directorate for Financial and Economic Affairs (FEZ)

Job Description

Just open your news app and you’ll see that there’s a lot going on at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy and the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality. These developments also have a major impact on our financial administration. As a senior finance specialist in The Hague, you’ll help our ministries ensure sound financial management. It’s a versatile role that offers a hybrid work arrangement and plenty of opportunities for growth.

Here is a brief overview of your responsibilities:

  • Processing payroll files in financial accounting.
  • Ensure that balance sheet items comply with laws and regulations. To this end, you will perform balance sheet analyses.
  • Process inter-agency and inter-departmental settlements using government payment documents. (In other words: when other agencies owe us money, you send and organize the government’s payment requests.)
  • Maintaining tables in our Oracle EBS financial system. It may sound simple, but this is quite challenging, as all departments within both ministries need to be able to work with these tables.
  • Contribute to financial reporting. This includes compiling the figures for the annual report.

If you don’t yet have any knowledge of federal finances, the Accounting Act, the Central Government Financial Information and Administration Manual, or federal budget proposals, we’ll of course train you in these areas. You certainly don’t need to know and be able to do everything on day one, but you will use your financial expertise and communication skills wisely to come up with solutions for the questions you encounter. Because you can be sure that policy and operational departments, as well as all sorts of other colleagues, will know where to find you.

After a year, you’ll have gone through all the processes at least once and will likely have made significant strides in your personal and professional development. Over time, you’ll have the opportunity to advance to the next level, and of course, that comes with a higher salary.

Want to learn more about your specific responsibilities and the team atmosphere? We’d be happy to tell you more during an introductory interview!

Job Requirements

  • You must have at least an associate's degree in a relevant field, such as business administration or finance and control.
  • You understand how financial administration works and, ideally, have experience with government finances. If you don’t have that experience yet, we’ll train you.
  • You work carefully and independently, but you also seek input from colleagues and other relevant people and organizations. And you enjoy working with a team on a shared project, such as an annual report.
  • You’re good at making connections between data, you can spot when information is missing, and you ask the right questions to uncover all the relevant information.
  • You’ll hit the ground running, create well-organized schedules, and set clear priorities. Perseverance is also a plus, because our bureaucracy doesn’t always move as quickly as you might like.
  • You offer your opinions in a critical yet constructive manner and provide clear advice and creative solutions, which you back up with solid reasoning.

Terms of Employment

  • Salary level: Grade 11
  • Monthly salary: Min. €3,608 – Max. €5,503 (gross)
  • Employment status: Permanent employment contract
  • Minimum number of hours per week: 32
  • Maximum number of hours per week: 36

Other terms and conditions of employment

In addition to your salary, you will receive an Individual Choice Budget (ICB). The ICB consists of money (16.37% of your gross annual salary) and time. With the ICB, you can make choices that suit you and customize part of your employment benefits. For example, you can choose to have a portion of your monthly income paid out whenever you wish. You can also convert this budget into leave and vice versa, or spend it on tax-friendly purposes. The Dutch government is strongly committed to personal growth and career development and offers numerous opportunities for this. Secondary employment conditions include various study facilities, company fitness programs, full reimbursement of your public transportation costs for commuting, and partially paid parental leave.

Details

  • If you do not (yet) have a permanent position as a civil servant, you will start with a temporary position with the prospect of a permanent one.
  • The introductory and selection process consists of at least two rounds of interviews and a final discussion regarding terms of employment.
  • Checking references or conducting an assessment may be part of the selection process.
  • Colleagues within the central government who are permanent employees may be seconded or transferred while retaining their current employment status.
  • After the application deadline, the job posting and the employer’s contact information will no longer be visible online. To avoid having to request this information later, we ask that you download and save the job posting.

What else do we offer you:

  • A pleasant work environment with excellent facilities, just a short walk from the central station.
  • Plenty of opportunities to continue developing your skills and specialize.
  • We believe it is important to maintain a good work-life balance. Working hours can be arranged flexibly by mutual agreement.
  • If you are hired, hybrid work is an option; you will work partly from home and partly at the office. We believe it is important to have a good home office setup. We therefore offer a subsidy for home office equipment and a work-from-home allowance in accordance with the Central Government Collective Labor Agreement (CAO Rijk).

We do not accept unsolicited applications for our job openings.
