Movies that Matter aims to broaden perspectives on human rights. We provide a platform for feature films and documentaries about human rights and a just, sustainable society. Through our educational work, we seek to encourage students to become active citizens and raise their awareness of the core values of our democracy. We do this not by providing ready-made answers, but by using film (and debate) to ask questions. Film is an extraordinarily powerful medium. Where words and writing sometimes fail to truly move students, cinema can break through indifference or cynicism. We never view film as a conclusive argument, but as the starting point of a process of forming opinions.
Movies that Matter aims to broaden perspectives on human rights. We provide a platform for feature films and documentaries about human rights and a just, sustainable society. Films that make you think, give you new insights, and hold up a mirror to yourself. We screen these films at the annual Movies that Matter Festival in The Hague, monthly in seventeen art-house theaters across the country, during countless film events we organize on commission, at film festivals in developing countries, and—through teachers—to students in secondary schools throughout the Netherlands.
