The organizations Varkens in Nood and Dier&Recht are looking for a press officer who can promote our campaigns in the media with passion and perseverance—and who wants to work with an enthusiastic team to improve animal welfare.
Pigs in Distress and Dier&Recht are fighting for a world in which all animals can live a life that meets their needs and allows them to express their natural behaviors. To achieve this, we campaign in various ways: we expose abuses in the media, file lawsuits, and lobby policymakers.
The team consists of fourteen full-time staff members and several freelancers. We have a strong team of subject matter experts, including two veterinarians, two animal scientists, a biologist, a lawyer, and a policy officer. We also have a versatile and creative communications team. Together, we develop campaigns and interventions to raise awareness of animal welfare issues as effectively as possible and bring about change. In doing so, we collaborate with politicians, lawyers, scientists, and journalists.
We work hard for animals every single day. To ensure our campaigns are as effective as possible, we believe it’s important for our team to include people from diverse backgrounds and with varied experiences.
You keep an eye on the news, identify opportunities, and suggest topics that are of interest to the media. You generate media coverage for our topics both reactively and proactively. You establish our foundations as authorities in their fields and work closely with our spokespersons to achieve this. You support the spokespersons during media appearances.
You will write and edit compelling press releases, opinion pieces, and other content for print and online media. You will maintain our existing media network and expand it by building new relationships. You will establish partnerships with journalists and influencers.
Every few weeks, there’s a new campaign or promotion to promote. During this busy but motivating time, you quickly switch between different colleagues, (media) partners, and communications. And you never lose sight of the details.
Please email a cover letter and resume (both as PDF files) to puck@dierenrecht.nl by April 26, with the subject line “Application for Press Officer.” If you have any questions, please email or call Puck van der Wiel (020-280 78 06).
After the initial screening, we will invite candidates for an initial interview with the Head of Communications/HR and the HR Assistant. A potential second interview will be conducted with the director. For the second interview, we will ask you to write a (brief) media plan and press release.
We are not interested in sales approaches regarding this job opening.
