We focus on everything that matters to residents. Our goal is to make a significant contribution to creating livable and socially cohesive neighborhoods in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. We do this in collaboration with a dedicated board, approximately 60 volunteers, 35 staff members, and hundreds of active residents. Together with all these active residents and professional partners, we are constantly building social networks.
We are looking for a Community Development Worker (24–32 hours per week)
Who are we looking for?
- An enthusiastic and flexible doer and thinker, skilled at supporting, guiding, and motivating residents and resident groups from diverse (cultural) backgrounds in community-focused initiatives.
- A colleague with a college-level education and work experience, who has experience organizing and chairing resident meetings.
- Our community development workers help residents recognize and harness their own strengths: our colleague coaches residents to advocate for their own interests and work together to create livable and socially resilient neighborhoods. The team uses the “Community Development in Essence” charter as a guide for its work.
- A colleague with knowledge and experience in community-based work in the social sector and in involving other professional partners in the community in your work.
What skills do you need?
- Independence: the ability to work independently and take on a high level of responsibility for one’s own work;
- Creativity: combining online and offline methods to engage residents;
- Networking: You easily connect with others and develop and leverage a diverse network of residents and professionals;
- Planning: You can manage multiple tasks at the same time;
- Organization: You are good at assessing what is needed to carry out a plan and help residents organize ongoing or one-time activities and events.
