Speelboerderij Het Buitenbeest is located in the heart of Zoetermeer. The historic farmhouse, with its animal stables and a yard where chickens roam freely, is situated in the older part of the property. Since 2014, the Play Island has been home to the activity center (with a greenhouse) and the nature play area where children can play and do crafts. Special evening events are also organized. The farm is frequented mainly by children ages 0 to 12, often accompanied by their parents, grandparents, or caregivers, as well as many groups from daycare centers and school classes. Everyone is welcome. On average, the Play Farm welcomes more than 200,000 visitors annually. City Farm Het Buitenbeest is part of the Green Play and Learning (GSL) team within the Leisure Department. Within this department, the Sports, Arts and Culture, Events, and GSL teams work closely together. Our department develops strategy, advises the board, and carries out many different activities throughout the city. Within this department, the GSL team is responsible for the play and city farms, neighborhood and school gardens, livestock in the outlying areas, and nature and environmental education. GSL offers accessible, educational, recreational, and sports programs in and about Zoetermeer’s green spaces, contact with animals and nature, and play opportunities. This contributes to better health and vitality for residents of all ages, enhances the quality of life in residential neighborhoods, and supports children’s development in particular.
You’re resourceful, cheerful, enthusiastic, and love working with children. You think on your feet when the situation calls for it and are completely at home organizing activities of all sizes. You enjoy working in a team of colleagues, interns, and volunteers. You’re sociable, a good listener, can work independently, and take ownership of your work. You enjoy leading large groups or supervising groups of children.
In addition, you’re athletic, active, and in good physical condition; you’ll often walk more than 10 kilometers a day on the grounds and help set up and take down inflatable play structures and the ice rink, among other things. You’re also willing to keep the restrooms, kitchen, and outdoor areas clean. You have a good command of the Dutch language, which is necessary to communicate effectively with visitors of all ages. This proficiency is also essential for promoting the play farm on social media, the website, and through the flyers, posters, and vacation brochures used to inform visitors.
We are committed to fostering greater diversity and inclusivity within our team and therefore invite everyone to apply. We believe that different perspectives, backgrounds, and skills will strengthen us as a team.
Apply before the deadline of January 10, 2024. Interviews will be held at the play farm on Wednesday, January 17, and Thursday, January 18. Internal candidates will be given priority over external candidates if equally qualified.
