Are you enthusiastic and positive? Do you enjoy working with your

colleagues, both within and outside the team?

The Service Bureau of the Amsterdam University of the Arts is looking for a

Central Student Administration Staff Member (0.8–1.0 FTE)

Who are you?

You enjoy helping people and are willing to look into things further if you can’t answer a question right away. You have a proactive work ethic and end your workday with a sense of satisfaction when you’ve gotten a lot done and helped people effectively. Even when things get hectic, you keep a cool head, set priorities, and distinguish between what’s important and what’s not. You don’t mind that every day turns out differently than planned, and you get a boost from providing optimal support to our students and academies during the enrollment and withdrawal process. In addition, you have an affinity for administrative processes.

What are you bringing?

You have a college-level education and way of thinking. You have experience with the MS Office suite. You quickly familiarize yourself with systems you are not yet familiar with. You have strong administrative skills, work efficiently, but never lose sight of accuracy. Because there are many international students at the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK), it is essential that you have excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English (both verbal and written).
We want all our colleagues to feel at home at the AHK. So it doesn’t matter to us what your personal style is, what your background is, or who you’re attracted to. What matters is that you are yourself and that you are enthusiastic and committed, while enjoying the dynamic atmosphere of the AHK’s intercultural and artistic environment. You identify with the Service Bureau’s core values: Passion, Professionalism, Co-creation, Service Orientation, and Inclusivity.

What will you be doing?

As part of the Central Student Administration, you and your colleagues will serve as the point of contact for all AHK students and course participants, assisting them with administrative matters related to their studies. Your responsibilities will focus primarily on:

  • assisting students and course participants with enrolling in and withdrawing from their programs
  • advising on and billing for tuition and course fees
  • making and monitoring payment arrangements with students and course participants
  • providing support and advice on the immigration process for students from outside the EU
  • providing support and advice to colleagues at the academies on matters related to educational administration and regulations

Day-to-day communication takes place via email, phone, and at the front desk of the central student administration office at the Academy of Theater and Dance, located in downtown Amsterdam.

Who are we?

The Amsterdam University of the Arts comprises the Breitner Academy, the Academy of Architecture, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, the Netherlands Film Academy, the Reinwardt Academy, and the Academy of Theatre and Dance. Through a wide range of specialized higher professional education programs at the bachelor’s and master’s levels, the AHK prepares students for careers in the national and international fields of art, culture, and heritage. Within the AHK, support services are centrally housed in the Service Bureau, which consists of the departments of Corporate Control, Central Administration and Procurement, ICT, Information Management, Facilities and Management, HR, and Education, Research, and Communication.
The Central Student Administration (CSa) is part of the Central Administration and handles the annual enrollment and withdrawal of approximately 3,000 students and 1,000 course participants at the university. In addition, the CSa is responsible for student accounts receivable management, all matters related to residence permits for non-European students, and student ID cards.
The CSa maintains contact with many agencies, such as the IND (for residence permits), Studielink (for student registration), the Education Executive Agency (DUO), and collection agencies. We work with a team of five colleagues who stay in close contact with one another and always strive to help each other, so that tasks remain well-distributed and everyone continues to enjoy their work, even when things get busy.
