To advise the board on grant applications under the new, temporary program "Strengthening Indonesian and Moluccan Intangible Cultural Heritage," vfonds is seeking members for the advisory committee and a chairperson (unpaid).
From December 1, 2022, through June 30, 2024, vfonds will implement a new temporary program aimed at raising awareness of, strengthening, and preserving the intangible cultural heritage of the Indonesian, Moluccan, and Papuan communities in the Netherlands. For current and future generations. This includes living heritage such as rituals, celebrations, social traditions, dietary customs, symbolism, or a unique craft. This grant program is being implemented with support from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.
The reason for this program is the Extra Impulse for Collective Recognition of the Indonesian and Moluccan Communities, made available by the government in 2020 to mark the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Southeast Asia. This funding is intended for four themes that are important to this community. One of these is making the cultural heritage of these communities more visible. More information can be found at www.houdjeerfgoedlevend.nl.
Procedure
The independent advisory committee provides advice to the vfonds board regarding the evaluation and approval of applications under the program. Diligence and integrity are central to this process. A committee member evaluates applications in writing against fixed criteria, using the priorities outlined in the program (see regulations on the website) as guiding principles: practice, visibility, development, transmission to new generations, and safeguarding for the future. Subsequently, one or more online meetings are held to discuss these assessments. The vfonds board ultimately decides on the awarding of grants based on the committee’s advice.
The advisory committee is objective and impartial. Committee members are expected to set aside their own preferences and interests when forming their judgments. Applications under this program take into account the context in which each application is submitted or implemented. When reviewing applications, the committee also considers that the supported projects collectively represent many facets of intangible cultural heritage, that there is a nationwide distribution of available financial resources, and that there is also sufficient diversity in the types of projects supported, disciplines, etc.
Composition
When appointing committee members, consideration will be given to ensuring a balanced representation in terms of expertise, age, gender, and cultural background, particularly with regard to the Indonesian, Moluccan, and Papuan communities, as well as support and credibility within the community. Young people from these communities are strongly encouraged to apply.
