Every four years, the City of The Hague makes a multi-year grant available as part of the Arts Plan. The City of The Hague is seeking members for the Advisory Committee to provide guidance on the individual policy plans of cultural institutions for the 2025–2028 Arts Plan, effective January 1, 2023.

The Hague is a growing and beautiful cosmopolitan city, with all the opportunities and challenges that come with it. Culture contributes to this by building an appropriate cultural infrastructure, by giving both major international institutions and smaller cultural initiatives the space to develop. With a focus on talent development and a vibrant creative environment. We want to be and remain a city with a wide range of cultural activities, for our own residents and for visitors.

What will you be doing?

  • As a member of the Advisory Committee, you will be part of a group of subject-matter experts who, drawing on their combined knowledge and experience, will provide comprehensive recommendations on grant applications for the 2025–2028 period and, consequently, on the structure of The Hague’s cultural sector;
  • You will attend events in The Hague’s cultural sector and engage in dialogue with the applicants;
  • You will read the individual policy plans of the cultural institutions and evaluate them based on the policy framework;
  • You will participate in confidential, inspiring committee meetings, where your perspective is needed and you will have the opportunity to share it.

Who are you?

  • You have extensive knowledge of developments in at least one of the following disciplines or sectors:
  • classical/early/contemporary music
  • pop/jazz/hip-hop/electronic music
  • theater
  • dance
  • movie

  • cultural education
  • cultural participation (with a focus on young people)
  • In addition to subject-specific knowledge, expertise is desired in areas such as diversity and inclusion, digital culture, talent development and creator coaching, operational management, programming for new generations, and the evolving audience. In-depth knowledge of (at least) one of these areas is a plus.
  • You bring a fresh perspective to the field and are up to date on developments in the Dutch cultural landscape.
  • You have a “bird’s-eye view” and recognize the importance of a strong cultural infrastructure in the city; you contribute to this by working with the other members of the Advisory Committee to develop a comprehensive recommendation.
  • You are dedicated, meticulous, and have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • You have not been involved, either directly or indirectly (through family or personal connections), with cultural organizations in The Hague over the past five years.
  • Previous experience on an advisory committee is not required.
  • You will have the opportunity to come to The Hague to attend the committee meetings.

How much time does it take you?

From January through December 2023, you will attend performances and concerts organized by cultural organizations in The Hague. The advisory period will take place between December 2023 and June 2024. Please keep this in mind when considering the time commitment.

What do we offer?

Members of the Advisory Committee receive an allowance (attendance fee) of €241.95 per half-day for attending meetings and preparing for them, plus travel expenses. For attending performances, we reimburse the cost of admission and travel expenses.

We want to be a diverse and inclusive organization that welcomes everyone. Diversity is a strength that we leverage to achieve better results for the city. We therefore strive to ensure that the composition of the Advisory Committee reflects the residents of The Hague.
