More about this organization
The Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, with its distinctive red-brick facade and classical architecture, as seen from Museumplein.

As a Junior Programmer at the Concertgebouw, you’ll be working at one of the most beautiful concert halls in the world, in a place where there’s something new to experience every day.

Drawing on your knowledge of and passion for classical music, you will be part of a dynamic and creative team dedicated to delivering the sublime concert experience that the Concertgebouw aims to offer its audience.

You will be working in the Programming, Education, and Participation department. This department programs and schedules all concerts for the Concertgebouw’s in-house programming. This includes concert series and individual concerts in the Main Hall, Small Hall, and Choir Hall. The Assistant Programmer will focus primarily on young talent.

Who are you?

You have a deep passion for classical music and have received higher education in this field at a conservatory or through a musicology program. You have a solid knowledge of the repertoire and performers in the classical music world. You are able to assist in the development of concerts and have some knowledge of marketing and production.

In addition:

  • Do you have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in Dutch and English?
  • Do you know how to prepare and maintain budgets, and do you have experience negotiating fees?
  • When things get busy, you can keep track of everything and set priorities.
  • Can you work independently and are you flexible?
  • Are you someone who enjoys contributing to the common goal by working closely with others and respecting each other’s differences?

No two people are alike! The Concertgebouw strives to be an organization where everyone feels welcome and safe—where employees can be themselves and are given the freedom and recognition they need to contribute to our mission in their own way:

The Concertgebouw brings together a diverse audience and enriches their lives with a sublime musical experience

That’s why we’re curious to find out who you are!

What will you be doing?

As a Junior Programmer, you will work alongside the staff of the Programming, Education, and Participation Department and be responsible, among other things, for curating our Young Talent series, “Hemelbestormers,” which features concerts across three different series, including related programming such as presentations, interviews, and introductions.

Other tasks include:

  • Organizing free lunchtime concerts, with a particular focus on young talent.
  • Assist with the scheduling of Small Hall concerts for the VriendenLoterij Summer Concerts.
  • Planning special events for the Concertgebouw Fund and the main sponsor.
  • Maintaining a network of musicians, talent agencies, conservatories, and other key partners.
  • Attending concerts at the Concertgebouw and elsewhere.

You don't mind going to concerts in the evenings and on weekends.

What do we offer?

  • A salary, in accordance with the Concertgebouw’s compensation system, ranging from a maximum of €2,823 gross to €3,682 gross per month for a full-time, 38-hour workweek.
  • A pension plan.
  • 25 days of vacation per year for full-time employees.
  • A dynamic, informal work environment.
  • The opportunity to put your creativity and passion to good use.
  • An interesting job where you’ll become part of an experienced, professional, and friendly team.
  • A bicycle plan for up to €749, including VAT.
  • The opportunity to take yoga classes or join our running team.
  • Free ticket program for employees.
