Endlessly inspired by the raw energy of the streets, ISH Dance Collective has been bringing hip-hop dance and urban sports to the theater for over two decades. Through our co-productions with other companies, we also skillfully blend street disciplines with traditional art forms such as ballet, opera, theater, and classical music.


Driven by a broad community of performers and creatives, ISH Dance Collective is more than just a dance company: ISH is a movement that provides a platform for young people, new styles, and unexpected creative choices. ISH performs in theaters both in the Netherlands and abroad, as well as in local neighborhoods, at schools, at events, and on TV. We focus on a broad, young, and diverse audience.

ISH is based in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. In our dance studios, we produce several theater productions each year, and we also organize numerous programs in the areas of education, talent development, and community engagement. To this end, we collaborate with a large network of partners, ranging from theaters and co-producers to educational institutions, foundations, and commercial companies.

This year, ISH launched a major initiative to professionalize its marketing and communications efforts, which is expected to result by 2023 in an up-to-date marketing strategy, a new corporate identity, a new website, and a well-balanced team within the department. 

In the role of Head of Marketing, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the organization’s marketing and communications strategy. In addition to campaigns for current productions and projects, this includes the positioning and branding of the company, the development of new markets and audiences, the creation of strategic multi-year plans, and the generation of ideas to engage with our target audiences in innovative ways. To achieve this, you will lead and work closely with the online marketing specialist, the public relations specialist, and external designers, photographers, and consultants. 

For this position, we are looking for an independent and proactive Head of Marketing who can take responsibility for the full range of activities. For this role in our small organization, you must be able to lead, make decisions, and inspire others, but also enjoy taking the initiative and getting things done yourself. You must connect with and be inspired by the culture and values that ISH represents, and have a good sense of language and visual communication to strike the right tone for our various target audiences. You must enjoy thinking outside the box and going the extra mile to perfect an idea. You know how to prevent stress by planning in detail. To manage the marketing budget, you must have sufficient financial insight.


JOB DESCRIPTION

Your responsibilities will include (among other things):       

  • Developing and implementing the marketing and communications strategy 
  • Positioning and branding of the company 
  • Development of new markets and new audiences 
  • Developing marketing strategies and multi-year plans
  • Developing and executing marketing campaigns for productions and tours
  • Communication professionals, theaters, schools, and other partners
  • Managing photographers, videographers, and designers
  • Establishing partnerships and collaborative arrangements 
  • Writing and sending newsletters, brochures, and invitations
  • Supervise intern(s)

You are/have (at a minimum):

  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree level of work and thinking, preferably with a degree in marketing or communications. 
  • At least five years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in developing and implementing a strategic marketing and communications plan.
  • Broad and up-to-date knowledge of the field. 
  • A strong sense of language, imagery, and culture in the performing arts, street culture, youth culture, and/or urban sports
  • Excellent writing skills, both formal and informal, for both online and print media. 
  • An entrepreneurial, proactive attitude, a desire to learn new things, and the ability to generate ideas creatively and identify opportunities and solutions.
  • An eye for quality and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a systematic and disciplined manner, multitask, and anticipate.
