2 Art Teachers

The Maastricht Institute of Arts is the leading arts education institution in the southern Netherlands and beyond, and is part of Zuyd University of Applied Sciences. Since 1983, it has been committed to offering a variety of programs in the visual and performing arts to a broad, diverse, and mixed population of students from the Netherlands and abroad.

The institute values the development of artistic authorship, with an emphasis on creation, concept development, and the ongoing process of exploration and reflection. An open and dynamic curriculum with room for experimentation, which takes into account changing society and professional practices, links the programs to recognizable Bachelor’s and Master’s degree profiles across disciplines and hybrid formats:
- Interdisciplinary Arts
- Architecture and Interior Design
- Communication Design
- Education, Fine Arts, and Design

For the Fine Art and Design in Education program, we are looking for:
2 Visual Arts Instructors (0.4 FTE each)

Who we are:
The Bachelor’s program in Fine Art and Design in Education trains the educators of the future—educators who are empowered, look beyond the boundaries of their discipline, and place learning processes at the heart of education. The program offers small-class instruction centered on personal attention and a critical, inquisitive mindset. Together with our students, we take responsibility for our community. Students are challenged to determine their own academic path, work across disciplinary boundaries, and position themselves within the professional field. An inquisitive attitude is central to this and contributes to the training of 21st-century educators. The program develops a more fundamental approach to the themes of diversity and interculturality in its curriculum, learning pathways, and student population.

The candidate is expected to have:

  • The ability to collaborate with us in delivering interdisciplinary education and to actively contribute to training critical educators who recognize the urgency and role of the profession within society;
  • Extensive experience in mentoring students and possesses up-to-date pedagogical and didactic knowledge and skills;
  • Experience with interdisciplinary education;
  • A contemporary perspective on art and education;
  • The skills needed to design a hybrid learning environment;
  • Sensitivity to cultural diversity and inclusion;
  • You have experience guiding artistic processes and artistic research;
  • A flexible mindset focused on collaboration.

We are offering a position with the following responsibilities:

  • Facilitating artistic processes;
  • Facilitating projects at the intersection of art and education;
  • Guiding students in their personal development;
  • Contribute to the program as an inclusive learning environment;
  • Developing contemporary education;
  • Preparing, delivering, and evaluating course components, as well as guiding students in completing assignments, including final projects.
  • Curriculum and Assessment Development
  • Contribute to curriculum reform at the course and module levels, as well as the development of valid assessments.

We strongly encourage candidates with a bicultural background and/or gender expertise to apply.

Terms of Employment

  • We are offering a 0.4 FTE position, initially for a period of one year.
  • We offer a salary based on education and experience, up to a maximum of pay scale 11 under the CAO-HBO (maximum €5,127.39 gross per month for a full-time position).
  • For internal candidates with a permanent employment contract, the previously agreed-upon term of employment will be honored.
