More about this organization
Staff members in historical costumes demonstrate traditional crafts and interact with visitors at an open-air museum.

Together with your team—which includes two other day coordinators—you’ll serve as the primary point of contact for seasonal staff and public volunteers. You’ll ensure a safe and high-quality work environment where both visitors and staff can thrive. You are a welcoming floor manager and oversee the museum’s overall appearance. You maintain close communication with your colleagues, work together to ensure order and cleanliness in the museum grounds, and manage the inventory of supplies and food. Throughout the day, you provide solutions for staff absences due to illness or emergencies on the floor.

The Prehistoric Village is a lively open-air museum in Eindhoven, where visitors of all ages can experience the past. At our museum, visitors actively discover what daily life was like in the past. Through living history, they take a journey through time from early prehistory to the late Middle Ages. The museum welcomes more than 70,000 visitors annually, including many families and school groups. We are currently collaborating withthe Eindhoven Museumon the development ofMuseumpark Vonk: an expansion of the current Prehistoric Village featuring fascinating structures and a modern museum building with an introductory show, exhibition, and workshop. The new museum is expected to open in the spring of 2026 and will be open year-round.

Our enthusiastic team consists of 13 full-time employees, approximately 40 seasonal staff members, and more than 200 dedicated volunteers. Together, we create a unique historical experience for every visitor.

What will you be doing?

You will be part of the Field Department and will work closely with the two other day coordinators and the museum manager. On your workdays, you will supervise the public-facing staff: reception staff, group leaders, tour guides, and volunteer guides. You will be responsible for ensuring that the day runs smoothly. You will ensure the Prehistoric Village maintains a professional and welcoming atmosphere and take the lead in resolving any emergencies. In addition, you will support our guides and group leaders in carrying out their duties and be available to answer visitors’ questions.

You will spend one-third of your working hours managing field staff, and an equal amount of time ensuring an optimal visitor experience in terms of quality and safety. You spend the rest of your time on the specific task for which you have final responsibility: purchasing materials, purchasing food, and optimizing cleaning operations. In cases of force majeure due to staff absence caused by illness, you may take over guided tours or a small educational group.

Will you be our new colleague?

You bring:

  • At least an MBO-4 level of work and thinking
  • An interest in history

  • Experience in dealing with visitors
  • A passion for collaboration
  • A first aid and emergency response certificate is preferred

Participation in the training program is mandatory and will take place on Saturday, March 15, 2025. During the first few weeks, follow-up training will be provided, and an experienced education staff member will assist you.

This is a year-round position from March 1 to December 31, 2025, for 3 days a week. If you prove to be a good fit and both parties are satisfied, the contract will be extended for one year. We will create the schedule in consultation with the other team members. You will work on weekdays and weekends, and the working hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Overtime will be compensated during the off-season. Workdays and vacations are coordinated as a team.
