The Prehistoric Village is looking for day coordinators to work 24 hours per week; a role in which you ensure that every visitor to our museum has a wonderful day.
Together with your team—which includes two other day coordinators—you’ll serve as the primary point of contact for seasonal staff and public volunteers. You’ll ensure a safe and high-quality work environment where both visitors and staff can thrive. You maintain close communication with your colleagues, work together to ensure order and cleanliness in the museum park, and manage the inventory of supplies and food. Throughout the day, you find solutions to absences due to illness or emergencies on the field. At times, you may also be present in historical costume.
The Prehistoric Village is the most child-friendly museum in North Brabant. It is an open-air museum where visitors of all ages can actively engage with everyday life from the past. Through living history, you can take a journey through time across six historical periods, from early prehistory to the late Middle Ages. The museum attracts over 70,000 visitors annually, including many families with children. In addition to 11 permanent staff members and about 35 seasonal employees, over 180 volunteers are involved with the Prehistoric Village.
You will be part of the Field Department and work closely with the two other day coordinators and the museum manager. On your workdays, you will supervise the public-facing staff: reception staff, group leaders, tour guides, and volunteer guides. You will be responsible for ensuring that the day runs smoothly. You will ensure the Prehistoric Village maintains a professional and welcoming atmosphere and take the lead in resolving any emergencies. In addition, you will support our guides and group leaders in carrying out their duties and be available to answer visitors’ questions.
You will spend one-third of your working hours managing field staff, and an equal amount of time ensuring an optimal visitor experience in terms of quality and safety. You spend the rest of your time on the specific task for which you have final responsibility: purchasing materials, purchasing food, and optimizing cleaning operations. In cases of force majeure due to staff absence caused by illness, you may take over guided tours or a small educational group.
Will you be our new colleague?
Here, everyone has the freedom to be themselves. Our diversity of backgrounds and perspectives is at the heart of our team’s dynamic and strength. Eindhoven and the surrounding area thrive on diversity! At the Prehistoric Village, we celebrate this and strive to be a vibrant reflection of this diverse region. We believe in embracing different backgrounds and perspectives, and we invite everyone to be part of our historical adventure.
This is a year-round position from March 1 to December 31, 2024, for 3 days a week. If you prove to be a good fit and both parties are satisfied, the contract will be extended for one year. We will create the schedule in consultation with the other team members. You will work on weekdays and weekends, and the working hours are from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM. Overtime will be compensated during the off-season. Workdays and vacations are coordinated as a team.
We are looking for people who can lead and mentor our seasonal staff and volunteers with enthusiasm and initiative. You enjoy working as part of a collaborative team that, under the leadership of the museum manager, ensures our visitors have an unforgettable day. Please send a cover letter explaining what you can bring to our team and how you see yourself fitting into this role. Please attach your resume and email both to y.lammers@eindhovenmuseum.nl by January 7, 2024, addressed to Yvonne Lammers, Museum Manager.
Does your cover letter stand out? If so, we’d love to invite you for an interview during the week of January 15.
