As the largest component of the cultural sector, Dutch museums are uniquely positioned to connect with society and bring together a wide variety of perspectives and people. Each museum tells a unique story, sparks conversations, and fosters cultural development. They showcase the past, tell our stories, and work toward a shared future. Because museums belong to and are for everyone.
Who are we looking for?
Are you a true driving force? Someone who enjoys delving into topics and knows how to convey their importance to others? Do you have a background in the sector and an understanding of current trends? Would you like to translate that into plans for the entire museum sector? We are looking for someone who is committed to advancing museum initiatives such as Diversity & Inclusion and Social Safety. We’re looking for someone who wants to work with us to continue building a strong sector by and for everyone.
What will you be doing?
- Developing and refining strategic initiatives, particularly in the areas of Diversity & Inclusion and Social Safety. Other areas you will explore include colonial collections, provenance research, collection management, Nazi-looted art, the Code of Ethics, the Guidelines for the Disposal of Museum Objects (LAMO), and fair practice.
- Maintaining and expanding our network of stakeholders, such as research institutions (e.g., RCE, LKCA) and partnerships (e.g., Musea Bekennen Kleur), as well as our own museum networks.
- Regular coordination within the team to ensure that your expertise is shared with policymakers (lobbying) and our members (through the Knowledge Sharing Program).
- Serving on external steering committees (such as the national Diversity & Inclusion Code Steering Committee) and providing support to committees and working groups, such as the Code of Ethics Committee for Museums.
What are we looking for?
- Experience with at least some of the areas described above, but in any case Diversity & Inclusion.
- Able to coordinate multiple cases simultaneously.
- Able to establish (new) partnerships and communicate effectively with partners.
- A strong and enterprising individual who builds connections, spots opportunities, and knows how to surprise others with new ideas.
- A passion for the museum sector.
What do we offer?
- A wonderful position on the Strategy & Policy team at the heart of the museum world, and the opportunity to make a difference in a sector of great social significance;
- An employment contract (initially a one-year contract) for 32 or 36 hours (full-time);
- Hybrid work (at least 2 days in the office) in the vibrant surroundings of Pakhuis de Zwijger;
- Position under the Museum Collective Bargaining Agreement, Grade 10, depending on your experience, with a salary range of
- €4,043 to €4,506 gross per month based on a 36-hour workweek;
- A commuting allowance, a work-from-home policy, and, of course, a Museum Card for yourself and to give away.
