The Development and Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (HRW) is seeking applicants for the position of Manager to focus on fundraising and outreach events and initiatives in the Netherlands. This full-time position will be based in our Amsterdam office and will report to the Netherlands Director in the Development and Outreach Department. We anticipate that the successful candidate will begin this position by November 2022.

Due to COVID-19, many of our global offices are operating in reduced capacities. The successful candidate may be required to work remotely if local mandates necessitate. We recognize that this moment, during the pandemic, is a uniquely difficult time for most people, particularly those with caregiving responsibilities, and we aim to be as flexible and supportive as possible in both the recruitment for and onboarding of this position.

Responsibilities:

  1. Work with the Netherlands Director and the Development team to identify, vet, cultivate, service, solicit and manage individual donors and prospects, including Committee members, foundations and corporations;
  2. Work with the Development Team to identify, vet, implement and manage new funding sources;
  3. Manage Netherlands based supporters; foundations and individuals;
  4. Manage, coordinate and help produce small and flagship fundraising, outreach and cultivation events in the Netherlands, including virtual events, researcher or programmatic briefings, and other cultivation events;
  5. Liaise with the Netherlands Committee leadership and the Committee: schedule meetings (in person or virtual), create agendas, prepare background materials, lead meetings, oversee events, and conduct follow-up to meetings;
  6. Assist the Netherlands Director with developing fundraising strategies;
  7. Assist with event production (in person or virtual) for individuals, foundations, and corporations;
  8. Manage communications with and create content for the Netherlands Committee, and the wider Netherlands donor community including circulating event invitations, programmatic updates, and other relevant outreach;
  9. Provide support services for the Amsterdam office including gift tracking and using HRW's Salesforce database;
  10. Oversee the recruitment and training of interns and coordinate their work;
  11. Promote an inclusive and positive work environment including soliciting diverse points of views, encouraging staff to participate in DE&I efforts, and proactively addressing bias, discrimination, microaggressions, etc.; and
  12. Perform other responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

Education: A bachelor's degree is required.
Experience: A minimum of five years of experience, preferably in fundraising and/or event management is required.

Related Skills and Knowledge:

  1. An entrepreneurial spirit and the discipline to work independently, but also the ability to function as a member of a development team is highly desirable.
  2. Experience coordinating in person and virtual events, preferably large-scale events, is required.
  3. Creativity, initiative, follow-through and excellent organizational skills are required.
  4. Excellent oral and written communications skills in Dutch and English are required.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills in order to work collaboratively within HRW, our volunteer groups and committees as well as with local and external partners are required.
  6. Ability to multi-task effectively, including having good planning and organizing skills and ability to work under pressure are required.
  7. Demonstrated commitment to human rights and/or international issues and the capacity to master and represent the mission and programs of HRW is essential.
  8. Strong technology skills, including experience with Microsoft Office, Salesforce, social media channels and online conference platforms (Zoom and Microsoft Teams) are highly desirable.
