
Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) is seeking an inspiring Executive Director who, together with the Artistic Director, will be responsible for the further development and implementation of the strategy of this leading contemporary dance company. NDT is known for its innovative approach to dance and operates at the highest international level with two dance companies: NDT 1 and NDT 2. NDT is a home for creation, where approximately 70 dedicated professionals work daily to perfect performances, educational activities, and unforgettable dance experiences for their audiences.
Since its founding in 1959, the company has grown into an internationally renowned ensemble that continually collaborates with emerging and established choreographers and artists from around the world. They believe in the power of development, research, and innovation, and strive to make a meaningful social impact through everything they do. Behind the scenes, there are approximately 125 staff members, including about 45 dancers. Each year, they stage more than 150 performances in the Netherlands and abroad, attracting an average audience of 150,000 people. In addition, the online performances in the Digital Theater reach approximately 16,000 viewers annually from an average of 55 countries. Their home base is Amare in The Hague, an iconic building they share with the Royal Conservatory and the Residentie Orkest.
The Executive Board is responsible for managing the foundation and reports to the Board of Trustees. The Executive Board consists of two members: an Executive Director and an Artistic Director. The Executive Board determines the strategy and policy and directs and coordinates all processes that serve to enhance the results and quality of the foundation’s work. The Executive Board is collectively responsible. The Executive Director has “sole/independent authority,” and the Artistic Director has “joint authority (with the other director).” The Executive Director leads a Management Team consisting of 8 people. The Artistic Director leads the artistic staff and the dancers.
As Business Director, you will be responsible, together with the Artistic Director, for the overall management of NDT and the development of its vision and strategy. You will lead the management team, consisting of eight people, and have final responsibility for the following departments: Finance, HR, Marketing, Communications & Development, Talent Development & Education, Technical, Production, Company Management, Costume Workshop, and the policy areas of D&I and Information Management. You play a crucial role in maintaining and expanding external relationships with both national and international stakeholders, including governments, corporate partners, funds, and donors. Fundraising is an important part of your role, as is representing NDT in relevant partnerships such as the Digital Theater steering group.
As Business Director, you have independent authority and work closely with the Artistic Director, who oversees the artistic staff and dancers.
