
BAK, a platform for contemporary art, is a leading international cultural platform at the intersection of art, knowledge, and activism, based in Utrecht. BAK’s mission is to explore and present the dynamic and critical role of art in society and to stimulate dialogue—with and through art as a form of active knowledge—on contemporary, urgent social and political issues. BAK is included in the Basic Cultural Infrastructure (BIS) as both a presentation institution and a post-academic institution. BAK also receives multi-year funding from the municipality of Utrecht.

BAK’s management team shares overall responsibility for BAK’s artistic and operational policies and works with the core team to implement them. The operational co-director focuses primarily on ensuring the organization’s smooth functioning in the areas of operations, operational policy, fundraising, and relations with funding agencies, as well as personnel, IT, and facilities.
We are looking for a steadfast, principled, positive, inspiring, and flexible manager who will serve as a sparring partner for the artistic director and, together, form the executive team.
The executive board shares overall responsibility for the general policy and the associated tasks. In day-to-day practice, they complement each other and divide up the tasks.
