We are looking for a passionate team manager who, with courage and entrepreneurial spirit, can help make a difference in the health of residents of Amsterdam and the Amstel region. In the role of team manager, given the context of the team care environment, you will fulfill various roles and be part of the Healthy Living Management Team. You will work in the team care environment, part of a department that launched in 2022 and is still very much in transition.

The position

The Transition Manager

We realize that making a greater impact on the health of Amsterdam’s residents and those in the Amstel region is a bold ambition. It requires courage and initiative from you as a manager—and from all employees—to establish the necessary approach to working together, where task-oriented, results-oriented, clear client-contractor relationships, data-driven, and systematic work are key principles. As a transition manager, you are, of course, responsible for realizing this change initiative in your leadership role.

The coach

As a team manager and colleague, you maintain strong connections with those around you and are accountable for your actions. Through your coaching style, you inspire your team—mostly academic professionals—to broaden, expand, or further develop their expertise. Building trust is the foundation of this approach, and you know how to create a pleasant work environment.

The client and the networker

In addition to your leadership role, you also effortlessly take on the role of project manager, effectively empowering your staff. The programs you oversee include “Healthy and Promising Start,” “Healthy Living” monitoring, and research on care and safety. Your portfolio also includes topics such as privacy and the Healthy Living Academy.

Executive Committee member

You will be part of the management team of the Healthy Living department. Together, we foster an open culture that encourages learning and improvement, where we trust in each other’s entrepreneurial spirit and professional expertise, and where we consciously leverage each other’s diverse strengths to work effectively with the project and program managers within the department.

Here's what you do on an average day

  • As a transition manager, you monitor the objectives of the change initiative and take action when necessary.
  • You coach your employees and are committed to their development. You ensure a diverse and inclusive team composition and sound business practices.
  • In addition to your leadership role, you effortlessly take on the role of a sponsor, effectively positioning your employees for success.
  • As a member of the management team of the Healthy Living department, you will actively contribute to achieving our shared goals and results.

This is where you get started

We strive to be a great employer that ensures all our colleagues feel seen and valued. We embrace the differences among our colleagues; these differences lead to better results for both our organization and our city. We aim to build a workforce that reflects Amsterdam’s diverse population. So, whoever you are, you’re more than welcome here!

The Healthy Living Department was established on January 1, 2022, and is part of the GGD Amsterdam – Amstelland Division. This division of the City of Amsterdam offers a comprehensive range of public health services in the City of Amsterdam and the surrounding area.

The Healthy Living Department is committed to sustainable prevention and creating equitable health opportunities for all residents of Amsterdam and the Amstel region. To this end, various disciplines—including research/knowledge, advisory services, innovation, and project and program management—are effectively integrated. The department is therefore organized into various multidisciplinary thematic teams. Collaboration and knowledge sharing are central to this approach. In the programs and projects, colleagues from the different teams always work together on substantive tasks. Challenges of this scale and diversity in the city and region are constantly evolving and require tailored solutions and area-specific approaches. Doing this well together is one of the department’s key development priorities.

The Care Environment Team serves as the “steward” of the care environment perspective and the necessary cross-domain connections within the Healthy Living Department. For some residents of the region, a healthier environment is not enough to become and remain healthy. They need more support and care, often in combination with services from the social domain, such as income support or anti-poverty programs, services under the Social Support Act (Wmo), Mental Health Act (MO/BW) services, “prescription for well-being,” and others. A strong and appropriate connection between both sectors is crucial at all levels (implementation, policy, national), and sometimes innovation is needed to make this possible. This includes access to reliable monitoring data on vulnerable residents with care needs and providing guidance on how to make the care environment healthier (such as canteens and opportunities for physical activity).

What you bring

For the position of Care Environment Team Manager, you must have:

  • At least 3 years of work experience as a team manager and at least 3 years of political and administrative experience in a functional or hierarchical leadership or coordination role within a government or consulting organization with 100,000+ employees that serves government agencies.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the functional or hierarchical management of projects or programs involving interdisciplinary collaboration among colleagues from the fields of practice, policy, and research.
  • Experience in the field of (public) health, particularly in both the social and medical sectors.

You should have the following skills:

  • Vision: You are conceptually flexible and therefore able to form strategic partnerships both within and outside the organization.
  • Coaching: You have an eye for people’s personal development and promote lifelong learning by coaching and training employees. You also create an atmosphere in which employees feel encouraged to take responsibility.
  • Results-oriented: You are focused on goals and results. You are an entrepreneur and a natural connector who knows how to combine the hard business side—with clear objectives—with the soft, human side to achieve results. You identify opportunities and threats, anticipate them, and respond effectively.
  • Environmentally aware: You demonstrate a solid understanding of professional, organizational, social, and political developments and know how to effectively apply this knowledge to your role and organization.

What we offer you

As a Care Environment Team Manager, you will join our team for 32–36 hours per week and can expect the following terms of employment:

  • A gross monthly salary of up to €7,269 (pay grade 14) based on a 36-hour workweek. The exact salary will be determined based on your education, knowledge, and experience.
  • A 12-month employment contract, with the possibility of a permanent contract thereafter if you do not currently have an employment contract with the City of Amsterdam, or if you have only a temporary contract.
  • If you already have a permanent employment contract with the City of Amsterdam, you will retain it and be transferred.
  • Opportunities for professional development and training. Our in-house training center, the Amsterdam School, offers a variety of training programs, professional development tracks, and on-the-job coaching to help you continue to challenge yourself.
  • An individual flexible budget (IKB) equal to 17.05% of your salary, which you can use for things like additional pension contributions or extra days off.
  • A pension plan with ABP, the pension fund for the public sector and education.
  • A travel allowance of €0.10 per kilometer, up to a 45-kilometer one-way commute, for the number of days you work in the office, and/or a work-from-home allowance of €2 net per workday that you work from home.
  • A monthly contribution toward health insurance.
  • Hybrid work: In this role, you can work partly from home and partly in the office. We provide the necessary equipment to help you set up a safe and healthy workspace at home.
  • A cell phone and a work laptop.
