Welcome to Roosendaal! We’re not just any municipality—we’re Roosendaal. This is the opening of our recruitment video for future civil servants. Here, you’ll work with greater autonomy and take on more responsibility. We strive to satisfactorily address the needs of our residents, businesses, and institutions, and to realize the administration’s ambitious goals.
Located in the Brabant City Chain, where sand meets clay and high ground meets lowland, nearly 80,000 residents live in the villages of Heerle, Moerstraten, Nispen, Wouw, and Wouwse Plantage, as well as the city of Roosendaal. Together, they form the municipality of Roosendaal. A municipality strategically located within the West Brabant region and at the center of a dynamic interplay between the global ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp. Situated at the intersection of major hinterland connections in both the north-south and east-west directions. Roosendaal’s location and the combination of city and villages present a wide variety of challenges for the municipal organization.
Thanks to your extensive leadership experience and strong personality, you are uniquely familiar with working within a networked organization. As a people-oriented leader, you take the lead when necessary and step back when it is more appropriate. With your empathy, you quickly grasp what is happening in the political-administrative arena and within the organization. Thanks to your analytical skills, you are able to bring clarity to the various developments within the municipality. Giving and receiving feedback are among your core strengths. You do not act as a referee, but as someone who brings administration, politics, and the organization closer together. You have a realistic view of the developments, ambitions, and possibilities of the administration and the organization, and you know how to present these in a constructive manner.
You exude confidence, which means that both the board and the staff know to turn to you when urgent issues arise. At the same time, you ensure that problems are not solved by you alone, but collaboratively. You support the executive team in their approach and work together to form a cohesive team. With your big-picture perspective, you are able to rise above the parties involved and maintain an overview.
In addition, you demonstrate decisiveness, drive, and the ability to provide clarity, while also serving as a reliable sounding board for the board. You are accustomed to working in an informal, open organization with short lines of communication. You yourself are entrepreneurial and business-minded.
You are also authentic and have experience with organizational development. You’re not someone who wants to reinvent the wheel, but you’re pragmatic enough to use an organic approach to maintain energy and engagement within the organization and support the board’s ambitions in a realistic way.
In short, we are looking for experienced and talented leaders who, true to themselves, are inspired by the warm and open culture within our organization and who want to make a difference in Roosendaal.

More information about our ambitious plans can be found in the Ambition Agreement:
Our municipal organization is focused on responding to social developments and challenges in a timely and proactive manner. In this way, we ensure that the municipal government receives optimal support in achieving social goals that align with the needs of our residents.
We believe in fostering personal responsibility and independence among our more than 550 employees, because we are convinced that this leads to greater motivation, job satisfaction, and better results. We constantly encourage initiative and problem-solving skills. In addition, we value acting internally in the same way we ask our residents to act. If we want them to take on more responsibility, be proactive, and contribute to our thinking and decision-making, we must demonstrate this ourselves internally.
Our organization has a flat, flexible structure, with autonomous teams that work directly with our four-member executive board. We strive for optimal remote collaboration whenever possible, and in-person collaboration when that is more effective. Each group makes concrete agreements regarding the results of their substantive work. In addition, they also have responsibilities in the areas of HR, finance, accessibility, and communication. To support these groups and the executive team, we have various support roles within the organization, such as program directors, group developers, board advisors, and HR advisors.
