Approximately 50,000 children with disabilities received support from Liliane Fonds in 2023. We helped bring about a change in their lives—a change that, for most, means the difference between a life on the margins and a life among others, with opportunities for growth.
80% of all children with disabilities live in the poorest parts of the world. That’s no coincidence. Poverty leads to disabilities, for example due to a lack of nutritious food, poor living conditions, and limited access to health care. Conversely, disability leads to more poverty. This is partly because parents of children with disabilities face higher costs for care and medication. And also because the children themselves rarely have access to education and, later in life, the labor market. They are also hindered by social exclusion and stigma. In this way, the vicious cycle of poverty and disability is perpetuated.
The Liliane Foundation breaks this vicious cycle and improves the quality of life and future opportunities for children with disabilities. We make their living, playing, and learning environments more accessible and help build a society in which they can participate. We always work together with local partners, who understand the situation on the ground and have the networks needed to provide this support in the most effective way possible.
Since 2018, Liliane Fonds and MIVA have formed a joint staff union. At our office in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Liliane Fonds and MIVA together employ more than 95 staff members and more than 77 volunteers.
