Elderly care is on the cusp of a major transition. We are building a future-proof organization centered on the client journey—whether someone “lives at home” or “lives with us.” We are looking for a director who will help shape this movement and, together with two fellow directors, lead the elderly care of tomorrow.
At Cordaan, we are committed to keeping healthcare accessible and affordable, even ten years from now. And we believe we can do it. Together as colleagues, with people with lived experience, with all our volunteers, and with the network of our clients and the organizations around us. We are working within a challenging social context to create a fair and realistic vision for the future. We realize that the future demands something from all of us, from every colleague. We will come up with new ideas, but also let go of old ones. We will continue to discuss the future with one another—what it means for us and the path to get there. Together, we shape the future. Within the social context, we must make a number of choices for the future of support and care provided by Cordaan. We must choose how we chart our course toward 2033. We make these choices based on our strengths:
Diverse: We value the different backgrounds, unique talents, and life stories of our clients and colleagues. We build bridges between elder care, mental health care, and youth services.
Meaningful: as a trusted partner in the Amsterdam region, we can make a difference. We play an active role and contribute to solutions.
Working together and as a network: we work together within Cordaan and with our network in the city. We know the city, and the city knows us. We know which partners we can bring on board.
Our guiding principles for clients (personal strength and a familiar environment), colleagues (individuality and expertise), and Cordaan (responsibility and network) provide us with direction and help us make bold choices, both now and in the future. Just as our core values—trust, courage, and togetherness—are linked to our strength.
We are pursuing a strategic course with a ten-year horizon, during which we will continue to evolve. To remain agile, we are dividing this period into three-year blocks, starting with the 2024–2027 period. Every three years, we will define our focus and set objectives. If the environment changes, we can adjust these objectives accordingly.
Cordaan’s elder care services are deeply rooted in Amsterdam and its neighborhoods. From dozens of locations and neighborhood teams, we provide daily care and support to older adults who live at home or in one of Cordaan’s residential facilities. This care is vibrant, meaningful, and always connected to the client’s daily life.
Cordaan is committed to a society where everyone counts. Elderly care is therefore more than just care: it encompasses housing, well-being, treatment, and maintaining control over one’s own life. In practice, this means that teams work on a neighborhood-based approach, collaborate with partners across the care continuum, and that there is room for personalized care and innovation.
A field in transition – tomorrow is today
Elderly care is being reorganized to prepare for the future. The Board of Directors has issued a mandate to develop a new management structure. This structure is intended to better align with Cordaan’s strategic objectives as well as with national developments such as the Framework Agreement on Elderly Care, the “Housing and Care for the Elderly” initiative, and the Strengthening of Primary Care.
The new Elderly Care Management Team will consist of three directors, each with their own portfolio: Care & Quality, Operations & Internal Processes, and Innovation & External Relations—but with shared responsibility for the organization as a whole. This management team is committed to an integrated approach, collaboration, and a culture of partnership.
Cordaan believes in the power of collaboration. Employees, clients, informal caregivers, and partners in the city are working together toward a future in which elder care remains accessible, people-centered, and sustainable. This approach focuses not only on organizational structures, but also on culture, leadership, and the way teams are supported.
Elderly care at Cordaan is therefore a dynamic field, offering opportunities for innovation, reflection, and growth. Whether it involves strengthening primary care, developing new models of residential care, or improving work processes—the momentum is building, and everyone is invited to join in. Today’s context calls for new ways of thinking, working, and acting—because tomorrow starts today.
