We are looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, and dedicated director for the Dutch Society for Intensive Care (NVIC). As director, you will play a central role in achieving the society’s key objectives. Are you a passionate professional with a heart for intensive care? Then we are looking for you!
The NVIC is the professional association of intensivists—medical specialists in intensive care—in the Netherlands. We are committed to advancing the field of intensive care medicine in the Netherlands. Our mission includes improving the quality of care for patients in intensive care, promoting research and development within this specialty, and ensuring patient-centered and effective treatments. We strive to continuously expand and share knowledge within intensive care medicine, for the benefit of both healthcare professionals and patients.
The NVIC also advocates for the interests of intensivists and keeps its members informed about medical, policy, and organizational matters. The NVIC represents intensivists within the Federation of Medical Specialists (FMS) and in numerous other consultative bodies involving various stakeholders in hospital care.
The NVIC is seeking a director who can maintain and strengthen the connections between the various scientific societies, the FMS, and other stakeholders as needed. The director is responsible for the day-to-day management of the association, in close collaboration with the association’s board. The director leads the NVIC office, where various staff members perform a range of tasks. The director supports and maintains close contact with board and committee members regarding the progress of various projects. As director, you, together with the board, are the face of the association.
We are looking for a new director who can truly make a difference. Someone who not only fully embraces our vision and strategy, but can also bring them to life even further within the given policy and financial frameworks. It is important that you view the quality of our association as your primary focus.
We are looking for a true networker—someone who can bring people together both within our association and beyond. If you have experience in a leadership role or within a scientific or professional association, you’ll have a head start. And if you have a relevant track record in healthcare or a related sector, we’re definitely interested. It’s not just about experience and skills. We are looking for someone who can connect people, motivate them, and make decisions decisively. Someone who can provide a powerful impetus to the important issues we face as the NVIC. And of course, a sense of humor is always welcome. It is important that you have experience building and maintaining networks and that you can effortlessly switch between the big picture and the small details, between strategy and practical implementation. A positive yet critical perspective is essential, as is a well-developed sense of administrative and political dynamics. We expect an academic level of work and thinking. If you are already familiar with the healthcare sector, that’s great, but if not, you must be able to quickly familiarize yourself with it. Leadership experience is a must, as is a business background and financial knowledge or affinity.
In short, we’re looking for someone who can really make a difference and take our club to the next level. Are you that person? If so, we’d love to hear from you!
A challenging and influential position within a dynamic environment where you will play a key role in the development of our association. This position requires flexible availability on a freelance basis for an average of 24 hours per week. You will spend part of your time working at Domus Medica in Utrecht, while some of the work can be done from home or at another location.
The Dutch Society for Intensive Care (NVIC) is an association for intensivists and physicians with an interest in intensive care medicine. The society was founded in 1977 and currently has over 900 members. The society has regular members (GIC-certified intensivists) and ICU fellow members (those in training to become intensivists). In addition, it has associate members (physicians and other professionals with an interest in intensive care medicine).
The NVIC represents intensive care medicine in the Netherlands in the broadest sense of the term, with its core tasks being to promote intensive care medicine, to advocate for the interests of intensive care patients by enhancing the efficiency, patient-centeredness, and effectiveness of care for these patients, as well as stimulating developments and expanding the body of knowledge in the field of intensive care medicine. In addition, attention is given to the legal status and professional interests of physicians working in intensive care units. The association serves as the point of contact for governments, hospitals, and health insurers in a wide range of areas (e.g., professional interests, funding of ICU units, capacity issues). The NVIC is affiliated with the European Society of Intensive Care Medicine (ESICM).
It also maintains close ties with its sister association in the nursing field, the V&VN-IC. The two organizations collaborate in various areas, such as quality inspections.
The NVIC has a board consisting of 9 intensivists and 1 fellow (a member in training to become an intensivist), each with their own portfolio, such as science, quality, data & information, professional interests, and education. The board members are supported in these efforts by the association’s office.
