As Director of Educational Services (DOS), you will provide direction for the educational logistics backbone of ROC Midden Nederland. You will operate at the intersection of strategy and implementation, working closely with the educational community. This role is suited for a unifying leader with vision and a calm demeanor.

What you do

Before we discuss your role as director, we’ll first explain what theEducational Services Department (DOS)is. The name doesn’t tell the whole story, even though it has a significant impact on education.

The Educational Services Department (DOS) serves as the educational logistics backbone of ROC Midden Nederland (ROC MN). DOS ensures that educational processes run smoothly, reliably, and in a future-proof manner. Educational logistics encompasses all the processes and systems necessary to effectively plan, organize, and support education, from schedules and exams to student administration and learning materials. The department develops, manages, and improves educational logistics processes.

In addition, DOS is responsible across the entire organization for student administration, exam offices, and scheduling offices, as well as the logistical aspects of course catalog planning, learning materials, and tuition fees. In this role, DOS works closely with the academic departments and other administrative services to provide the best possible support for teaching and learning.

In recent years, educational logistics processes have been largely standardized and implemented. In the coming years, the focus will be on further development: greater agility, improved user-friendliness, and better support for student-centered and flexible education. The goal is to be forward-thinking and stay ahead of the curve.

Your role as director

AsDirector of DOS, you will provide direction for the educational logistics infrastructure at ROC Midden Nederland. You will ensure that processes, systems, and support services effectively strengthen our educational programs and align with the organization’s strategic goals.

The foundation for standardization is in place. Your task lies in further development: creating flexibility and coherence, so that there is room for customization where it adds value for students and education. A course has been set that the department would like to continue. In doing so, you move seamlessly between strategic oversight and the realities of day-to-day operations within the departments.

You are a visible and unifying leader. Guided by a clear vision, you bring together educational directors, teams, and departments, and provide direction for decisions and changes. You are not afraid to set boundaries, know when flexibility is needed, and guide the organization through the trade-offs between standardization and autonomy.

With an eye for national trends and future educational concepts, you look beyond the current structure. You translate external trends into sustainable choices for ROC Midden Nederland, thereby building an educational infrastructure that is both reliable and ready for the future

You are

You are a leader who provides direction and fosters connections. With a calm and clear-headed approach, you are able to stay the course in a complex environment while remaining close to the people and the day-to-day operations. You make decisions based on the big picture, but when necessary, you delve deeper into processes and issues to get to the heart of the matter.

You believe in servant leadership and clear communication: you establish clear guidelines, build trust, and encourage others to take responsibility. You navigate large (matrix) organizations with ease and have an uncanny sense of the interests at stake. You combine that sensitivity with the courage to have honest conversations, even when there is tension or resistance.

 You have a keen eye for coherence and focus on sound business operations without losing sight of the goal. For you, strategy and execution are not separate worlds; you see the big picture and know what it takes to drive change. You view information issues, IT, and process development as tools to better support education.

As a person, you are approachable, engaged, and steadfast. You listen attentively, ask questions, and build trust by acting consistently and transparently. Setbacks don’t throw you off course; you use them to make better decisions together and move forward.

In addition, we ask

  • Bachelor’s degree level, preferably in business administration or a related field (such as industrial engineering);

  • Extensive leadership experience at the strategic level within a complex organization;

  • Demonstrable leadership experience within a large (matrix) organization;

  • An interest in educational logistics and process design within support services.

This is us

The DOS Department is a division that has a significant impact on the day-to-day operations of ROC Midden Nederland. With approximately 110 colleagues, we work together to ensure that educational logistics are organized in a smooth, reliable, and forward-looking manner. We do this through a variety of roles, ranging from administrative staff and schedulers to specialists and process managers.

Our strength lies in our close ties to the academic community. Many of our colleagues who support educational logistics work directly within the colleges, located throughout Utrecht, Amersfoort, and Nieuwegein. At the same time, we have a robust back-office team based at our central office on Brandenburchdreef in Utrecht, which focuses on coherence, quality, and continuous improvement. This is how we bridge the gap between day-to-day operations and organization-wide frameworks.

At DOS, we work in small teams with a strong sense of professional commitment. The approximately ten teams are led by 10 managers across two organizational levels. There is room for ownership and fostering collaboration within the department. As director, you will form the department’s management team together with four of the ten managers. Trust, openness, and shared responsibility are central to this collaboration. An annual plan has been drafted; would you like to receive a copy? Please request it by sending an email to Recruitmentat recruitment@werkenbij.rocmn.nl.

ROC Midden Nederland is characterized by a culture centered on dialogue, trust, and professionalism. As Director of DOS, you will be part of the executive team, alongside the directors of the other central departments, the academic directors, and the two-member Board of Directors. Within this team, we work together to shape the organization’s strategic direction, while respecting everyone’s role and expertise.

You will report directly to the Executive Board and work in an environment that fosters substantive discussions, collaborative learning, and decision-making that contributes to high-quality, future-proof education.

With its courses and diverse range of programs, ROC Midden Nederland reflects society. Every student brings their own life experiences and a unique set of talents, knowledge, and skills. That is why ROC Midden Nederland strives for a diverse workforce in terms of talents, age, hobbies, background, personality, preferences, faith, and experience.
