Are you an enthusiastic go-getter, a connector, and a networker, and do you want to be the face of Amsterdam 750? Then this is the job for you!

The position

On October 27, 2025, Amsterdam will celebrate its 750th anniversary. Starting in October 2024, festivities will take place for 365 days to mark the city’s anniversary. As program director, you will serve as the public face of the initiative and be responsible for collaborating with various external stakeholders, spearheading initiatives, and fundraising.

To make this happen, we ask that you do the following:

  • You have a high-quality and extensive network of external contacts across various sectors in the city, such as cultural institutions, research institutions, and the business community, and are able to expand this network and reach out to it for fundraising purposes.
  • You have a proven track record of success as a fundraiser in programs that are large-scale, complex, and/or high-impact.
  • You are a driving force and a connector who can build support in a complex administrative, organizational, and social landscape.
  • You are a professional who can easily align with the established program for Amsterdam 750 and its frameworks.

Here's what you do on an average day

  • You ensure that public and private entities connect with one another;
  • You play a driving role when it comes to third-party initiatives;
  • As an ambassador for the celebration, you will establish contacts with the business community and other stakeholders, and you will be responsible for fundraising;
  • The municipal program manager for Amsterdam 750 Years will be your primary point of contact. Together, you will report to the political and administrative clients: the mayor and the city clerk.

This is where you get started

We strive to be a great employer that ensures all our colleagues feel seen and valued. We embrace the differences among our colleagues; these differences lead to better results for both our organization and our city. We aim to build a workforce that reflects Amsterdam’s diverse population. So, whoever you are, you’re more than welcome here!

Working for Amsterdam means working for more than 850,000 Amsterdammers. We ensure that Amsterdam is and remains an attractive capital—a place where it’s great to live, work, and go to school, with room for entrepreneurs and visitors. We work for Amsterdam alongside some 19,000 colleagues who constantly challenge themselves and grow, working together with Amsterdammers to do what’s best for the city. Together, with pride, and above all, with a passion for the city.

On October 27, 2025, Amsterdam will celebrate its 750th anniversary. The city will celebrate this milestone for a full year, from October 27, 2024, through October 27, 2025. It will be a jubilee year for all Amsterdammers, both within the city limits and in the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. It will be a jubilee in the realms of art and culture, in and through education, in sports and community life, and with a vision for a sustainable, green city. And more. The municipality is the initiator, client, and coordinator. The municipality is also the driving force. In the run-up to the celebration, numerous municipal and external (private) initiatives by residents, Amsterdam-based companies, and institutions are taking shape. The goal is to create a memorable anniversary celebration that will continue to live on beyond 2025 in visible and invisible sustainable legacies and cherished memories.
