More about this organization
The interior of a modern theater with red seats and a balcony, lit by warm spotlights and neon accents.

Stadsschouwburg Utrecht finds itself at the heart of a rapidly changing world and cultural sector. Now is the time to shape the theater of tomorrow. As Utrecht’s central cultural institution, Stadsschouwburg is committed to staying dynamic and helping ensure that theater remains relevant in the 21st century. We do this in a way that brings together not only the arts, but also the residents of the beautiful city of Utrecht.

Stadsschouwburg Utrecht presents approximately 550 performances each season, attracting more than 200,000 visitors. In addition, the venue hosts a variety of cultural and commercial programs and events. We work closely with the Dutch performing arts community, and with Utrecht-based companies, festivals, and institutions in particular. We also support local artists and are strongly committed to education and talent development.

Stadsschouwburg Utrecht is a foundation with a supervisory board. The theater is also supported by the Stadsschouwburg Foundation, which has its own separate board of directors. The Foundation has a loyal circle of organizations that make long-term contributions and form a network of their own. The activities of and for the Foundation are developed and carried out by theater staff.

About the role

As the right-hand person to the CEO and a member of a six-person management team, you will lead an organization consisting of 150 employees. You will be primarily responsible for finance, HR, IT, and a new development department that is to be established. You will directly manage a team of 7 employees, which will soon be expanded to include staff from the development department. This new department will consolidate all activities related to sponsorship, fundraising, and relationship management.

What will you be doing?

  • You will ensure the organization has a solid, multi-year funding plan. You will prepare budgets, interim reports, and financial statements for both the theater and the Foundation. You will develop multi-year investment plans for which funding has been secured. You will oversee the audits of both organizations. You will report to the executive board, the supervisory board, and the Foundation’s board of directors.
  • You ensure strict compliance with laws and regulations. You make sure you are up to date on the latest developments and relevant laws and regulations.
  • You will ensure strict budget management for the theater and the Foundation.
  • You ensure the continuous optimization of processes by updating and implementing an effective AO-IC
  • You will have overall responsibility for ensuring a user-friendly, modern, secure, and stable IT environment. Together with an external vendor and application administrators within the organization, you ensure the continuous development of both general applications (MS Office 365) and user applications, including those for finance, payroll and HR, scheduling and planning, food service, CRM, ticketing, and the website. In doing so, you ensure as much integration as possible.
  • You will serve as a co-representative of Stadsschouwburg Utrecht and play an active role in relevant external networks in which the theater is represented, particularly within Utrecht’s business community. You will maintain strong relationships with the municipal government and the business community.
  • You will serve as the general manager’s external and internal deputy.
  • You will occasionally perform stage management duties (staff duties) during performances and major events at the theater.

What do you bring to the table?
