The Residentie Orkest is a leading symphony orchestra with a history spanning more than 120 years. The position
The position of Deputy Director of Audience & Marketing is a new one and plays a key role in strengthening the Residentie Orkest’s financial and audience-focused strategies. The person in this role will develop and implement a long-term strategy for generating its own revenue and contribute to the growth of the orchestra’s network. In this role, you will have the opportunity to further position the orchestra as a leading cultural player in The Hague and beyond.
The Residentie Orkest aims to strengthen cultural ties in The Hague through strategic partnerships, innovative marketing efforts, and a growing network of partners and sponsors. You will work closely with the Executive Director and, together with the Deputy Director of Operations, form part of the management team. In this role, you will lead the Development & Relations (D&R) team and the Head of Marketing & Communications (M&C), ensuring the alignment of strategies and the execution of initiatives related to self-generated revenue.
The purpose of this position is to further expand the orchestra’s impact by generating additional revenue on the one hand and broadening its reach on the other.
Responsibilities:
- Strategy Development and Implementation: Further developing the revenue development strategy (third-party funding) and successfully implementing its objectives.
- Leadership and team coaching: Leading the Development & Relations team (4 employees) and the Head of Marketing & Communications, providing coaching, and supporting their professional growth.
- Relationship Management: Maintaining and expanding relationships with key foundations, sponsors, and cultural partners. It is essential to develop strong, lasting relationships that help increase financial support for the orchestra.
- Optimization of support structures: Further strengthening support structures such as the Friends Association, the RO Fund, and the RO Club.
- Marketing and Communications: Evaluating marketing and communications strategies for their feasibility and effectiveness, in close consultation with the Head of M&C, with a focus on increasing visibility, audience reach, and revenue from ticket sales, donations, and fundraising.
- Budget Management: Taking responsibility for the D&R department’s budget and ensuring that financial goals related to third-party funding are met.
You will bring:
- Fundraising experience: Demonstrable experience with various forms of fundraising in the nonprofit sector, preferably within the cultural sector. This includes, among other things, securing major donations, sponsorships, and other forms of financial support.
- Strong network: Experience in building, maintaining, and expanding a broad and relevant network of cultural, business, and private partners.
- Leadership and team coaching: At least several years of experience in a leadership role, preferably within a team with diverse areas of focus. The ability to coach and develop a team of young and relatively inexperienced employees is essential.
- Commercial acumen: Able to identify and capitalize on commercial opportunities, with a solid understanding of marketing and communication at the strategic level.
- Communication skills: Strong communication skills in both Dutch and English, with the ability to communicate effectively at various levels within and outside the organization.
- Politically savvy and diplomatic: Able to navigate effectively in a complex and politically charged environment, both internally and externally, where striking a balance between professionalism and engagement is crucial.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with practical experience in the cultural sector, particularly in fundraising. You have a proven track record of success in securing funds and know how to effectively lead and develop a team. You have a strong network and are able to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders in a diplomatic and collaborative manner. In addition, you are flexible, innovative, and capable of making an impact both at the strategic level and in day-to-day operations.
You understand the unique dynamics of an orchestra and the cultural sector, and you have experience developing long-term strategies. You appreciate the orchestra’s cultural values and know how to translate them into sustainable revenue streams.

- Salary and benefits: A 0.8 FTE position in pay grade 14, with a maximum gross monthly salary of €8,431 for a 40-hour workweek.
