The position
As a member of the Executive Board, you will work with your fellow board members to set the direction for the Project Management Office and ensure effective collaboration with other organizations within the City of Amsterdam and the wider region. You will contribute to the further professionalization of the Project Management Office and the assurance of our organizational development. You will lead four teams comprising approximately 150 professionals, organized around professional and substantive themes. You are responsible for the Market and Personnel portfolio and supervise the managers of both staff departments. Executive board members may also be temporarily assigned to a specific assignment (project or program director) within the city.

- Stay connected with employees; pick up on their cues and check in with them regularly;
- Actively seek alignment with your fellow board members to ensure integrated and collaborative leadership;
- You ensure that the PMB teams and the staff departments are able to function effectively;
- Maintain contact with our client departments within the City of Amsterdam;
- Setting the course for what is needed now and in the future to ensure that the skills of our professionals (Staff) are optimally aligned with what our clients (Market) require.

The Project Management Office consists of a director, four executive staff members, approximately 450 employees, and a flexible workforce of approximately 150 employees. There is a staff unit that supports the primary process, consisting of the Finance, Control & Contract Management (FCO), Market & Capacity (M&C), Human Resources, Quality & Professional Development (PKP), and Communications departments. What you bring
For this Executive Position, you must have:
- Knowledge of and experience in leading complex, large organizations and managing professionals;
- Experience working in a political organization;
- Experience with strategic issues related to the market and human resources in a service organization;
- Experience with and a vision for learning and development in organizations.
You should have the following skills
- Management: Together with your fellow board members, you will lead the organization through a collaborative management approach; the executive team stands united in this effort.
- Vision: You will help us explore how we can better align the composition of the Project Management Office with that of Amsterdam’s population, and what we can do to become more inclusive.
- Collaboration: You are able to foster collaboration and build coalitions, both within the organization and beyond, as well as within the region. What we offer you
As a member of the Executive Board, you will join our team for 32–36 hours per week and can expect the following terms of employment:
- A gross monthly salary of up to €8,758 (pay grade 16) based on a 36-hour workweek. The exact salary will be determined based on your education, knowledge, and experience.
- A one-year employment contract, with the possibility of a permanent contract thereafter, if you do not currently have an employment contract with the City of Amsterdam, or if you have only a temporary one.
- If you already have a permanent employment contract with the City of Amsterdam, you will retain it and be transferred.
- Opportunities for professional development and training. Our in-house training center, the Amsterdam School, offers a variety of training programs, professional development tracks, and on-the-job coaching to help you continue to challenge yourself.
- An individual flexible budget (IKB) equal to 17.05% of your salary, which you can use for things like additional pension contributions or extra days off.
- A pension plan with ABP, the pension fund for the public sector and education.
- A travel allowance of €0.10 per kilometer, up to a 45-kilometer one-way commute, for the number of days you work in the office, and/or a work-from-home allowance of €2 net per workday that you work from home.
- A monthly contribution toward health insurance.
- Hybrid work: In this role, you can work partly from home and partly in the office. We provide the necessary equipment to help you set up a safe and healthy workspace at home.
- A cell phone and a laptop.
