ABOUT THE BOAT REFUGEE FOUNDATION

The Boat Refugee Foundation is a growing organization that provides medical and psychological assistance to refugees. We distinguish ourselves through our pragmatic approach in an international setting, delivering aid where it is needed most. We have been doing this since 2015 at various locations on the fringes of Europe.

We currently operate at three locations in Greece and Eastern Europe. We are a young, medium-sized aid organization with a close-knit team. At our headquarters in Ede, sixteen staff members work every day to make our missions possible. At our various field locations, an average of ten full-time staff members work alongside teams of professional volunteers.

WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

We are looking for a passionate professional with extensive leadership experience, preferably in the humanitarian sector. You are committed to the work we do and want to make a difference in this field. As director, you will play a central and unifying role in the development and structure of the entire organization. You will have final responsibility for the results achieved and for the well-being and focus of the teams. You will represent the foundation’s vision and safeguard our unique DNA. In this role, you are a strategically strong visionary capable of setting the course. In addition to advocating for the foundation’s interests, you are also willing to make “business” decisions.

The foundation is currently in a phase of further development in which strategic directions need to be further defined. You have experience in this area and know how to lead an organization that is evolving.

In your role as Executive Director, you will lead and serve as the point of contact for the Head of Fundraising & Operations and the Head of Programs, each of whom leads a distinct part of the organization. Together, you form the management team (MT) and complement one another.

THIS IS YOUR PROFILE:
  • You have extensive leadership experience at both the strategic and tactical levels, preferably within the humanitarian sector.
  • You are familiar with business management principles and have experience in organizational, human resources, financial, and quality policies.
  • You have gained knowledge of and experience with change processes.
  • You’re a good listener, empathetic, and committed. You’re also analytical and can pinpoint the problem when necessary.
  • You have a people-oriented, coaching, and collaborative leadership style. You know how to create a safe organizational environment where people feel comfortable making mistakes and learning from them.
  • You possess culturally sensitive and diplomatic skills and have a good sense of interpersonal dynamics.
  • You are enterprising, proactive, creative, and innovative. You also have a healthy dose of courage and are a trailblazer.
  • You know how to bring different teams together based on shared goals. You inspire employees and motivate them to continue developing their skills.
  • You are decisive and steadfast, and possess strong administrative and political instincts.
  • Ideally, you have an extensive network in the humanitarian sector that you can draw upon, preferably both within the Netherlands and internationally.
  • You are a constructive partner in discussions with the Supervisory Board.
  • You are willing to travel to our locations approximately twice a year.
  • You have an excellent command of Dutch and English.
  • Ideally, you should be able to start in the last quarter of 2022 (exact start date to be determined).

WHAT DO WE OFFER YOU?

Do you care deeply about refugees and see it as a challenge to help the management team chart our course moving forward? If so, we’d like to offer you the following:

  • 0.8–1.0 FTE position.
  • A one-year contract that is converted into a permanent contract upon satisfactory performance.
  • Salary in accordance with the Social Work Collective Bargaining Agreement, based on a 40-hour workweek. This position is classified in pay grade 10 and, depending on your experience, will range from €4,123 to €4,708 gross per month.
  • Hybrid work: You’ll work partly from home, and flexible hours are available. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the entire team works in the office.
  • Attractive benefits package.
  • And finally, a people-oriented organization where you can be yourself and grow both personally and professionally.

Does this position sound like a good fit for you, and are you interested? If so, we’d love to get to know you. We invite you to apply byAugust 1, 2022, by sending us your cover letter and resume via the application form. You will hear byAugust 18, 2022, whether you have been invited for an interview.
