Seeking an inspiring leader for RADAR Inc.!

We are looking for a passionate executive director for Radar Inc. An experienced, decisive leader who is committed to the fight for equal treatment and against discrimination, who connects easily with others, and who is eager to work with the management team and staff to build a professional organization and a just, inclusive society. In short, a figurehead for Radar Inc.

About RADAR Inc.

RADAR Inc. is a nonprofit organization that has been working since 1983 to promote equal treatment and combat discrimination. RADAR Inc. is committed to an inclusive society that offers equal opportunities to everyone. We are at the heart of society and offer a wide range of interventions. In a professional yet informal work environment, dedicated specialists collaborate with one another and co-create with stakeholders outside the organization to advance our mission: RADAR Inc. supports and empowers citizens, governments, and organizations in combating discrimination and shaping an inclusive society. Our core values are justice, accessibility, and progressiveness.

Organizational Structure and Scope of Operations

The RADAR Inc. foundation comprises three operating companies:

  • RADAR, an agency for equal treatment and anti-discrimination. Its area of operation covers 51 municipalities in South Holland and Brabant.
  • Art. 1, National Center for Discrimination. The organization is active at both the national and European levels.
  • The IDEM Rotterdam Urban Expertise Center serves the municipality of Rotterdam.

The operating companies employ a total of approximately 40 people. RADAR Inc. is well-positioned to strengthen its market position and expand its operations, both locally and on a regional and national scale.

The context

RADAR Inc. has gone through a turbulent period. After facing a financial challenge that took a significant toll on the organization, RADAR Inc. is in the process of reinventing itself. The intrinsic drive to create a better society is at the core of this social organization, which possesses extensive expertise and experience. Opportunities for growth lie in strengthening internal operations and enriching and expanding the range of services, products, and tools offered.

When exploring new markets, we also look beyond the public sector. In its thinking and actions, RADAR Inc. is shifting its focus from activities to results and social impact. In doing so, RADAR Inc. brings together the expertise gained through its support center, research, training programs, and consulting services.

What do we expect from you?

The new CEO’s responsibilities include (re)positioning RADAR Inc. and its operating companies. RADAR Inc. has the potential to become one of the key players at both the regional and national levels when it comes to promoting inclusion and preventing and combating discrimination. A strong brand image and positioning among all relevant stakeholders are essential to achieving this.

RADAR Inc. is a key resource for people who have experienced discrimination on various grounds. In the field of anti-discrimination services, there will be a clear trend toward greater collaboration in the coming years. In addition to its position as the largest anti-discrimination organization, RADAR Inc. aims to establish itself as the preferred partner for training and consulting in the field of IDEA (Inclusion, Diversity, Equality, and Accessibility): from government agencies and non-profit organizations to educational institutions and the business community. To achieve this, the internal organization is being further professionalized. The focus here is on promoting expertise and the personal development of employees.

We expect the CEO to demonstrate courage, entrepreneurial spirit, and a high degree of initiative. The CEO sets the direction for the organization by formulating strategic policy, structuring the organization, and steering it toward its objectives. Establishing a strong management team is of great importance, on the one hand for the organization’s continued growth and on the other to free up the Executive Director to focus on raising the organization’s profile. Other responsibilities may include initiating and implementing marketing activities, developing new revenue models, fundraising, and strengthening connections with other advocacy groups and stakeholders. In short, the goal is to get the foundation of the current organization in order while simultaneously working toward a future-proof organization. The building blocks for this are: expertise, visibility, professionalism, and financial stability.

Statutory status

RADAR Inc. has opted for a single-member executive board—the managing director—in line with the organization’s current size. The managing director is accountable to RADAR Inc.’s supervisory board for policy development and implementation. The Supervisory Board serves as a sparring partner for the Executive Director. The (working) relationship between the Supervisory Board and the Executive Director is laid out in the articles of incorporation, in accordance with the Social Work Governance Code. The Supervisory Board and the Executive Director work together collegially and constructively to fulfill RADAR Inc.’s mission, each within their own roles and responsibilities. The Executive Director manages the organization through the management team of RADAR Inc.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an executive director who:

  • I find fulfillment in strengthening an organization with a clear direction that brings stability and peace of mind;
  • Embraces inclusion, integrity, and equal treatment, and ideally understands—from personal experience—the impact of RADAR Inc.’s work;
  • Has experience leading (nonprofit) organizations of a similar size;
  • A true leader is: decisive, hands-on, and a coach who recognizes people’s strengths;
  • Has experience in change management, business operations, and HRM, and is capable of both strategic decision-making and hands-on work;
  • Is sensitive to the environment and can deal constructively with the complex relationships within a political and administrative context;
  • Is bold, entrepreneurial, and possesses strong business acumen and focus, enabling you to make decisions about whether or not to take on projects, as well as to create new opportunities;
  • Is able to represent RADAR Inc. as the organization’s figurehead and effectively engage relevant networks;
  • A skilled communicator who can build connections with people and stakeholders both inside and outside the organization and communicates clearly with colleagues and the Board of Trustees;
  • We are committed to tackling the challenges facing our organization and our society.

What do we offer?

We are offering you a position for 36 hours per week. Initially, this will be a one-year contract, but with the intention of extending it or converting it into a permanent contract. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Social Work, Welfare & Social Services Collective Bargaining Agreement. The salary range is €7,510 to a maximum of €8,339 (scale 15) for a 36-hour workweek; placement on the pay scale depends on work experience. Additional terms of employment are included in the collective bargaining agreement, including an individual choice budget of approximately 16% of the gross salary and a career budget.
