Are you a collaborative and forward-thinking leader who believes in the power of the library as a fundamental public service? Do you enjoy working with municipalities and partners to promote equal opportunities, literacy, and lifelong learning? Then this is the job for you!

What will you be doing?

You will set the direction for the strategic course and social impact of the Noord-Veluwe Library. You will translate national and municipal goals into a clear vision and ensure that plans are actually implemented. You will focus on results and highlight the library’s contribution to society.

You will be working within an administrative landscape comprising five municipalities, each with its own ambitions and dynamics. You will also seek to build connections with various community partners. You will build and maintain strong relationships and ensure that the library remains visible and relevant in all municipalities within our service area.

Internally, you will lead the management and staff teams and foster an environment that encourages development, innovation, and professional excellence. You will have ultimate responsibility for sound business operations and transparent governance.

The role in practice

You’ll constantly be switching between strategy, collaboration, and hands-on work. One moment you’ll be discussing the library’s direction and development with the management team; the next, you’ll be talking with local governments about shared goals and the library’s role in the social sector.

You’re often on the go: you visit branches, talk to staff and volunteers, and find out what’s going on. This keeps you connected to the work on the ground and the people we’re doing it for.

In addition, you will work on strategic issues, financial matters, and the organization’s further development. You will also represent the library in regional and national networks and partnerships.

Who are you?

You are a strong and approachable leader with a focus on people and social issues. You bring different interests together and are not afraid to make clear decisions. You feel at home in an administrative setting and know how to hold your own in a political and administrative environment.

In addition, you should have:

  • Experience in a senior leadership (executive/management) role.
  • An affinity for the public and social sectors.
  • Strong strategic insight and the ability to translate that into concrete results.
  • Experience collaborating within a complex stakeholder environment.
  • A unifying and inspiring leadership style.

What do we offer?

A role with real impact, within an organization that is deeply rooted in the community and constantly evolving. You’ll have the freedom to set the direction and make a tangible difference in our field.

  • A pleasant work environment with enthusiastic employees and volunteers.
  • Salary based on pay scale 14 of the Public Libraries Collective Bargaining Agreement (€6,783 to €8,481).
  • Appointment based on a Director’s Agreement, initially for a period of 4 years.
  • Flexible working hours and the option to work from home part-time.
  • Laptop and phone (reimbursement).
