Cordaan is seeking a collaborative, analytical, and results-oriented director who will contribute to the future of elder care with vision, courage, and a people-first approach.
Cordaan is one of the largest healthcare organizations in Amsterdam and the surrounding area, providing care for the elderly, people with disabilities, and youth, as well as social support services. With over 6,300 employees, 2,500 volunteers, and partners, Cordaan is building a society where everyone counts. Its vision is simple and powerful: a colorful and meaningful life together. Cordaan believes in people’s own strengths, works based on trust, courage, and collaboration, and provides care that fits into the lives of its clients.
For Cordaan, diversity and inclusion are an integral part of our work and care. The organization reflects the diversity of Amsterdam and the surrounding area: colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds, ages, and perspectives work together to serve residents and clients who are just as diverse. Cordaan wants everyone—both employees and clients—to feel welcome, heard, and valued. Inclusion and diversity are therefore a source of strength for the quality of care and for a healthy, forward-looking organization.
Cordaan’s elderly care services are deeply rooted in the community. Through dozens of locations and neighborhood teams, Cordaan provides care, support, and treatment to older adults who live at home or are staying (temporarily) in one of its residential facilities. Cordaan is committed to accessible, person-centered care that focuses on well-being, housing, and empowering individuals to take control of their own lives.
To ensure that elderly care is future-proof, Cordaan is developing a new management structure. The management team consists of three directors of elderly care who share responsibility for elderly care; in addition to directly managing care facilities and teams, they also focus on their own specific areas of expertise, namely:
Together, the executive team oversees elderly care at Cordaan. The executive team focuses on collaboration, a holistic approach, and ownership, and forms a close-knit, complementary team that collectively sets the course for the future of care.
The role of Director of Elderly Care requires comprehensive leadership across the various components of elderly care, locations, and areas of focus, with the goal of creating a seamless and accessible client experience and a forward-looking and enjoyable work environment for Cordaan’s colleagues. The context is complex and challenging: elder care is under pressure due to the labor market, changing care needs, the shift from inpatient to outpatient and community-based care, and financial constraints. In this context, as the new director, you do not view this as a limitation but as an opportunity to transform care through innovation, technology, and collaboration with partners in the care chain, and to achieve this together with Cordaan’s colleagues.
As Director of Elderly Care with responsibility for Operations and Internal Processes, you will be part of a collegial management team responsible for ensuring sound, future-proof operations within elderly care, and:
You are an experienced director with a vision for the future of elder care and organizational management. You combine analytical skills with a collaborative leadership style. You understand both the language of numbers and the language of people, and are able to build support for change. You have experience with organizational development and process improvement in a complex environment and are focused on sustainable results. You are intrinsically motivated to make a difference in the healthcare sector in Amsterdam.
Cordaan is seeking a Director of Elderly Care who can provide direction and inspiration. You connect people and interests, set boundaries where necessary, and allow flexibility where possible. You are decisive, proactive, and flexible. You have a keen sense of the human dimension, are curious and open to other perspectives, communicate clearly, and are well-grounded in an administrative environment. You are able to reflect and complement fellow directors, and make a visible contribution to a strong and complementary team.
Cordaan offers a meaningful role within a large social organization that is rapidly evolving. You’ll have the opportunity to help shape the future of elder care, drive innovation, and improve the quality of life for thousands of Amsterdammers.
