The Elderly Care Department 

Cordaan’s elderly care services are deeply rooted in the community. Through dozens of locations and neighborhood teams, Cordaan provides care, support, and treatment to older adults who live at home or are staying (temporarily) in one of its residential facilities. Cordaan is committed to accessible, person-centered care that focuses on well-being, housing, and empowering individuals to take control of their own lives. 

To ensure that elderly care is future-proof, Cordaan is developing a new management structure. The management team consists of three directors of elderly care who share responsibility for elderly care; in addition to directly managing care facilities and teams, they also focus on their own specific areas of expertise, namely: 

• Care & Quality 
• Innovation & External Focus 
• Operations & Internal Processes  

Together, the executive team oversees elderly care at Cordaan. The executive team focuses on collaboration, a holistic approach, and ownership, and forms a close-knit, complementary team that collectively sets the course for the future of care. 

The position 

The role of Director of Elderly Care requires comprehensive leadership across the various components of elderly care, locations, and areas of focus, with the goal of creating a seamless and accessible client experience and a forward-looking and enjoyable work environment for Cordaan’s colleagues. The context is complex and challenging: elder care is under pressure due to the labor market, changing care needs, the shift from inpatient to outpatient and community-based care, and financial constraints. In this context, as the new director, you do not view this as a limitation but as an opportunity to transform care through innovation, technology, and collaboration with partners in the care chain, and to achieve this together with Cordaan’s colleagues. 

As Director of Elderly Care with responsibility for Operations and Internal Processes, you will be part of a collegial management team responsible for ensuring sound, future-proof operations within elderly care, and:

• Translate your vision into action and ensure alignment between care, processes, and resources;
• Do you lead discussions with the Care Administration Office and insurers, working closely with the healthcare contracting team?
• Do you actively contribute to Cordaan’s strategic direction and the field of elder care?
• Are you strong in both strategy and execution: you bring structure, spot patterns, and turn plans into concrete results; 
• Do you ensure a solid framework, reliable information, and effective support for the care teams;
• You will be responsible for areas such as budgeting, production, capacity management, and financial results, and you will work closely with your fellow directors and the directors of Finance, HR, IT, Facilities, and Real Estate. As the portfolio holder, you will place extra emphasis on these areas.

You are an experienced director with a vision for the future of elder care and organizational management. You combine analytical skills with a collaborative leadership style. You understand both the language of numbers and the language of people, and are able to build support for change. You have experience with organizational development and process improvement in a complex environment and are focused on sustainable results. You are intrinsically motivated to make a difference in the healthcare sector in Amsterdam. 

What do you bring to the table?

• Academic level of work and thinking, preferably in business administration, organizational development, or a related field; 
• Extensive experience in strategic leadership of operations or organizational development within complex organizations; 
• Experience with transitions and change processes, preferably in a public or social context; 
• Strong analytical skills and an understanding of finance, processes, and management; 
• Ability to translate strategy into action, with a focus on gaining buy-in and implementation; 
• Connective and coaching leadership: you foster ownership, collaboration, and development; 
• An affinity for healthcare and Cordaan’s social mission;
• An inclusive perspective and sensitivity to diversity within teams and the client population; 
• Humor, the ability to put things into perspective, and resilience.

Cordaan is seeking a Director of Elderly Care who can provide direction and inspiration. You connect people and interests, set boundaries where necessary, and allow flexibility where possible. You are decisive, proactive, and flexible. You have a keen sense of the human dimension, are curious and open to other perspectives, communicate clearly, and are well-grounded in an administrative environment. You are able to reflect and complement fellow directors, and make a visible contribution to a strong and complementary team.

• Terms of employment in accordance with the VVT collective bargaining agreement, pay scale FWG 80 (€7,497 – €11,825 gross based on a 36-hour workweek);

The selection process consists of interviews with the selection and advisory committees, which include the Board of Directors, senior management, the management team for elder care, and employee representatives. An (online) assessment is part of the process.
