General Manager – 32/36 hours per week

The Sexmatters Foundation is looking for a new director for its organization—someone who can guide us into a new phase of professionalization and growth. Are you an experienced director with excellent management, business, and operational skills? Do you also have an interest in social safety and discrimination, and are you committed to promoting equality and inclusion? If so, we have an exciting position as Executive Director at Sexmatters just for you!

About us:

Sexmatters is a rapidly growing nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering an inclusive and socially safe society where everyone can be themselves and where there is no place for inappropriate behavior of any kind. We provide workshops and training in education and the social sector (Youth Program), and we also offer training to government agencies, the hospitality industry, the arts and culture sector, and the social sector (Ivy Program). Our core themes are sexuality, gender, consent, discrimination, and social safety. Every year, we deliver more than 900 workshops and training sessions throughout the Netherlands!

Our team consists of about 20 young professionals from diverse, complementary backgrounds. We place a high value on a socially safe work culture that takes everyone’s personal development needs into account.

The role of Managing Director:

As Managing Director, you are the face of Sexmatters and effectively communicate our mission and values, both internally and externally. You inspire the team and work to strengthen our position in society.

You will enhance our visibility by building a broad network and maintaining long-term relationships with policymakers, schools, businesses, grant providers, and civil society organizations. Together with the management team, you will develop and implement strategic policies, while closely monitoring progress.

You closely follow social and political developments and ensure that Sexmatters responds appropriately to them. By playing an active role in the public debate, you generate ideas and seek out opportunities for collaboration and funding that support our goals.

As a people-oriented manager, you create a positive work environment, support your employees in their professional growth, and work to build a strong and professional organizational culture.

With your administrative and strategic expertise, you will lead Sexmatters into its next phase of growth and expand our social impact.

Your profile:

  • You have extensive management experience, including at least 3 years at a nonprofit organization with an annual revenue of more than EUR 1,000,000;
  • You have an academic level of thinking and work;
  • You have substantive knowledge and a network related to the themes of Sexmatters (e.g., gender, sexuality, social safety, and discrimination);
  • Thanks to your practical expertise, you serve as a figurehead for the organization and its mission, and you know how to represent Sexmatters in strategic contexts;
  • You can combine strategic insight with commercial acumen and translate this into effective policies, actively contributing to fundraising and strengthening the organization’s financial foundation
  • You have extensive experience in developing multi-year forecasts, estimates, and budgets, as well as in managing them;
  • You easily form new partnerships and know how to maintain and strengthen existing relationships;
  • You are a coaching-style manager with experience in leading young professionals.

What we offer:

✔ You’ll become part of a diverse team of enthusiastic young professionals within a rapidly growing organization.

✔ The opportunity to actively contribute to the further development and professionalization of Sexmatters.

✔ A position requiring 32–36 hours per week.

✔ The opportunity to work from an inspiring workspace at A-lab.

✔ A salary in accordance with the Social Work Collective Bargaining Agreement, Scale 12.

✔ Attractive benefits package, including: a flexible spending account, a year-end bonus, and vacation pay.
