More about this organization
Theater Bellevue on a canal, with a terrace full of guests and parked bicycles—a typical Amsterdam street scene.

Theater Bellevue is an organization with 24 employees who are responsible for programming, producing in-house productions, and engaging with diverse audiences. In this role, you will maintain a balance between artistic ambitions and financial feasibility, ensure efficient, future-proof, and sustainable operations, and serve as a key strategic partner to the Artistic Director-Manager.

Your role

As Deputy Director of Operations, you are the driving force behind our day-to-day operations and oversee the financial health of our theater. You maintain an overview of all operational processes and ensure they run smoothly: from implementing HR policy and financial planning & control to facilities management, contracts, catering operations, and venue rentals. You optimize these work processes and think both operationally and strategically about how we can function even better as a theater.

Together with the manager of De Smoeshaan, you will lead Amsterdam’s premier theater café. In collaboration with the Artistic Director, you will create an inspiring and safe work environment where staff and volunteers can grow. Under your leadership, the theater spaces and facilities will maintain their high quality and remain accessible to creators, performers, and visitors.

Who you are

We are looking for someone with sharp business acumen and a passion for people and culture. You understand how a cultural organization stays financially sound and know how to translate artistic ambitions into feasible plans. You have at least 5 to 10 years of experience in a leadership role within a cultural or social organization and thrive in a dynamic environment.

You’re a connector who effortlessly moves between different teams and levels within the theater. Whether you’re discussing creative plans with the artistic director, reviewing catering operations with the manager, or talking with grant providers, partners, and sponsors about how we can increase our impact—you know how to bring people together and keep processes on track.

In addition, you’re a hands-on person who isn’t afraid to roll up your sleeves and get to work. You have an eye for detail, bring structure to the process, and always maintain a clear overview—even when the pressure is high and there are multiple priorities to juggle.

What we offer

A competitive salary and employment conditions in accordance with the Theater and Dance Collective Bargaining Agreement, scale 10 (salary level depends on experience and education). A one-year employment contract, with the possibility of extension to a permanent position. An inspiring location in the heart of Amsterdam with passionate employees, creators, and a highly diverse audience. And we offer you the opportunity to grow professionally and personally, and to play a crucial role in the further development of Theater Bellevue as an artistic company through your contributions. Would you like to be part of our team and help Theater Bellevue continue to grow?

Please submit your application (resume and cover letter) by May 18 via this link.

Theater Bellevue is committed to contributing to a just and healthy society, with an organization that reflects the diversity of the Netherlands. That is why we strive to build teams that bring together as wide a range of experiences and perspectives as possible. We invite everyone to apply, regardless of background, education, religion, sexual orientation, or gender identity.
