As Deputy Director, you will implement the Amsterdam Economic Board’s strategic direction. You will lead a team of professionals and focus on results. Your team will connect and facilitate partner coalitions. The goal: to achieve breakthroughs in regional transitions together.
The Amsterdam Economic Board is a unique regional network that brings together decision-makers and change agents from businesses, research institutions, government agencies, and civil society organizations into coalitions. Together, we work on solutions to the major, complex challenges facing the Amsterdam region. Our mission: a future-proof economy with sustainable earning power and a focus on people and nature.

To achieve the best results, both our network and we ourselves need to make tough choices. And we need to focus on transitions where we, as a helix partnership, can truly make a difference. That is why we are working with the network in coalitions toward three strategic goals of regional importance.

What will you be doing?
Our organization is undergoing a transformation, with new roles and competencies, such as entrepreneurship and network management. This will enable us to fully dedicate ourselves to working toward our chosen goals.
The role of Deputy Director is being redefined at the Amsterdam Economic Board. As a servant leader, you will manage three coalition managers, three coalition coordinators, a strategic advisor, and a flexible support team. Together, they will build partner coalitions to work toward the chosen goals. You will ensure the alignment of strategic and operational processes. You will advise and support the Executive Director in her role and serve as her deputy and secretary.
Duties and Responsibilities
- You will lead the coalition management team, bring out the best in your people, and ensure that the team functions effectively and makes progress toward the goals set for the sub-regions;
- You will be responsible for translating the new direction into concrete goals, strategies, and working methods for the team and for facilitating the coalitions;
- You will support the managing director, stand in for her when necessary, provide advice on strategic developments, and translate these into internal decision-making and processes;
- You will serve as secretary to ourBoardand theAgenda Committee(providing advice, setting the agenda, and taking minutes);
- You will strengthen strategic collaboration with partners and the broader network;
- You secure (additional) funding to make our work possible and ensure that results are sustained and/or scaled up;
- Together with the Executive Director, you will actively promote the visibility of the helix partnership and the role and positioning of the Amsterdam Economic Board, both within and outside the region.

- You are an inspiring, results-oriented, and servant leader who provides clear direction, motivates others, and creates the conditions necessary for the team to perform at its best;
- You have a clear understanding of metropolitan/regional economic issues and overall prosperity in the Amsterdam region, as well as at the national and EU levels;
- You are a highly experienced thought leader on systemic transitions and the role of helix collaboration in this context;
- You possess a strong sense of social and political-administrative awareness and are able to maintain an overview and make decisions in a complex, multidisciplinary environment involving various (conflicting) interests;
- You have strong communication skills and are an engaging conversationalist at all levels within government agencies, businesses, academic institutions, and social organizations;
- You are able to keenly identify the implications of relevant future developments for the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area and translate them into the strategic and operational processes of the Amsterdam Economic Board;
- You are entrepreneurial and have strong business acumen, and you drive progress toward our goals;
- You have knowledge of and an interest in the (new) economy, broad prosperity, social and technological innovation, the labor market and education, financing, and/or public spaces.
- You have at least 10–15 years of work experience in a relevant position.

What do we offer?
- An immediate opening for 36–40 hours per week;
- Salary range: €6,753 – €9,424 gross per month (based on a 40-hour workweek), depending on your experience;
