Executive Director of Kunsteducatie Walcheren (32 hours per week)

Leader – connector – networker – cultural entrepreneur

KEW aims to promote participation in the arts and culture in Walcheren—specifically in Middelburg, Vlissingen, and Veere—among all age groups: children, youth, adults, and seniors. KEW focuses on cultural education in primary and secondary schools and childcare, cultural participation in the social sector and healthcare, and the development and support of cultural partnerships in the region. KEW is committed to equal opportunities in the arts and culture both within its organization and beyond; diversity and inclusion are paramount in this regard.

Walcheren Arts Education Foundation (KEW)

KEW operates under a Supervisory Board/Executive Director model. The Supervisory Board has five members. The management team consists of the Executive Director and the Operations Manager. In total, there are nine enthusiastic and dedicated full-time staff members. In addition, we collaborate with 35 cultural professionals on a freelance basis and 20 cultural organizations to achieve KEW’s objectives.

Developments and areas of focus

The 2025–2028 policy program will be developed next year in collaboration with the new executive director. A draft work plan is in place for 2024. Some key items from this work plan are:

  • Further exploring sustainable partnerships with organizations in the fields of cultural education, cultural participation, and cultural engagement.
  • Linking art and culture to education, child care, social services, health care, quality of life, and leisure through the lenses of inclusion and diversity.

The organization's key focus areas in this regard are:

  • Strengthening cohesion, connection, and communication with employees and independent contractors.
  • Place greater emphasis on sustainability in the organization’s work processes.

Are you KEW’s new leader?

The new executive director we have in mind is an inspiring and unifying leader who is visible both internally and externally. As an innovative thinker and charismatic doer, you are able to translate ideas into concrete solutions. Your results-oriented approach allows you to seamlessly switch between strategic, tactical, and operational levels. In addition, you are a program manager and know how to effectively lead the Programs department.

Who would we like to meet?

We are looking for an executive director who, in addition to serving as a director, will also take on the role of program manager and carry it out with passion. A director with a keen sense of what is needed, both in the municipalities of Walcheren and within the organization itself. With knowledge of the Zeeland network and an affinity for the arts and culture, you will be able to build and maintain networks. You have a broad repertoire to draw upon, enabling you to contribute both at the strategic level—addressing the organization’s ambitions and challenges—and within the regional network. You are authentic, make genuine connections, are close to the staff, and actively invest in fostering relationships.
