Schiphol Area Development Company (SADC) is seeking a Business Controller to help build financial management systems and drive digital innovation.

About SADC

Schiphol Area Development Company (SADC) develops sustainable, innovative workplaces in the Schiphol region. Through this public-private partnership, we are working on area development that delivers social value, incorporates circular principles, and drives technological innovation. SADC is at a pivotal moment. The organization is growing and evolving toward a more data-driven way of working. This requires strengthening its financial and digital foundation: greater coherence, better management information, and further professionalization of processes and systems.

The position

To support the growth of the Finance & Digital Innovation department, we are seeking a Business Controller who will help build a future-proof finance function that goes beyond traditional financial control. The role is firmly situated at the intersection of Finance and Digital Innovation. An affinity for data, IT, and AI is therefore an essential part of the role. The Business Controller serves as the right-hand person to the Director of Finance & Digital Strategy and takes a leading role in setting the direction, structure, and content.

The challenge

The challenge lies in simultaneously strengthening financial management and digital development. SADC needs greater consistency in its processes, better management information, and a stronger foundation for decision-making. As a Business Controller, you will actively contribute to this. You will bring structure to financial processes and reporting, develop insights into performance, investments, and risks, and ensure that these insights lead to concrete decisions and actions. At the same time, you will help improve data flows, systems, and working methods, enabling the organization to evolve toward a data-driven way of working. Together with the Director of Finance & Digital Strategy, you will build a department that connects finance and technology, thereby directly contributing to the quality of decision-making.

Your main responsibilities

  • Preparing, analyzing, and monitoring budgets, forecasts, and business cases;
  • Handling month-end closings, reports, and variance analyses;
  • Monitoring cash flow, investments, and project returns;
  • Actively contribute to GREX management and investment analyses;
  • Developing and improving management reports and dashboards;
  • Identifying financial risks and opportunities and translating them into concrete actions;
  • Initiating and implementing improvements to processes, reports, and information flows;
  • Actively contribute to digitalization and innovation initiatives, including the use of data and (where appropriate) AI;
  • Supporting the Director of Finance & Digital Strategy on strategic, tactical, and organizational issues;
  • In addition, in this role you will help shape the scope of the position, set priorities, and serve as a sounding board for the Director of Finance & Digital Strategy.

Who are you?

You are a seasoned finance professional who looks beyond the numbers. You have a solid foundation in business control and are curious about how data and technology can enhance the quality of decision-making. You thrive in a dynamic organization and actively contribute to building structure, fostering collaboration, and delivering results.

Your profile

You recognize yourself in the following competencies:

  • You combine insight and sound judgment with the ability to translate financial and business information into actionable insights;
  • You demonstrate leadership and the ability to influence others: you know how to set the direction based on analyses and get others on board so that insights are turned into action;
  • You take ownership and feel responsible for the quality of your work and the overall result;
  • You work collaboratively, based on a relationship of equals, and you bring energy and, when appropriate, a sense of humor that puts things into perspective;
  • You navigate a public-private context with a keen sense of organizational sensitivity and are attuned to diverse interests;
  • You act authentically: you are clear about who you are, consistent in your actions, and inspire trust;
  • You have the ability to reflect and clearly learn from your experiences and feedback;
  • You are change-oriented and digitally savvy, and you understand the impact of data, IT, and AI on finance and decision-making.

What we offer

A unique opportunity to help shape the financial and digital future of SADC. You’ll work in a close-knit organization with short lines of communication, a high degree of responsibility, and plenty of room to make an impact and further your professional development.

Terms of Employment

  • Salary range: €85,000 – €100,000 gross per year, depending on seniority and growth potential;
  • Excellent pension plan (80% employer contribution);
  • Development budget of €3,000 per year;
  • Social impact budget and additional days off;
  • 40-hour workweek (32 hours negotiable);
  • 28 days of leave, with the option to purchase additional days;
  • Hybrid work;
  • Weekly office lunch;
  • Excellent work-life balance.
